I just sort of had the idea to do a mathmatical model here on agville and then compare it against the large actual seeded acrage reports and see how accurate it is.we could all benefit if it is accurate of course big if.so the more numbers the better.

Don't worry checking;we don't expect you to post you can sit back and capitilize of us unlucky suckers

Cuz I'm from the area, and it sure sucks. It is hard to even explain to outsiders what is going on here. Just yesterday, was talking to someone from Regina, they were saying it sure is wet everywhere. I'm like yeah, sure it is.
It is something you just can't understand unless you drive throughout this region. Field after field of no seeding.
And then these guys say rain makes grain. RIIGGGHHHHTTTT.

                  CP.

And I'm supposed to capitalize, how?

Since you're honest and stated, "we don't expect you to post", who is "we"? Oh damn!, you're correct, there is also Hyde working on the project!!

I didn't seed a single spring acre, and it wasn't the weather that prevented it. Is that any clearer than mud?

Wadena to Humboldt noway more than 25% seeded from the highway, of which 10-20% under water. Another result of NOT timely seeding and spraying is a dandelion gone to seed epidemic! "Dwain" on Farmgate calling for $100/ acre for unseeded and drowned acres.

Yes I know freewheat. We had acres too wet to seed in 2005,2006, and now in 2010. I know rain makes grain, but there is no grain with the amount of moisture we have recieved this year. The aftermath of 2006 still persists.Salinity, foxtail barley and dandelion got out of contol in 2006 and it has been a struggle to get the above under control. Every neighbors basement has water, roads are washing out, pastures are under water, and many of the local cattle producers are having problems with foot rot and sick new born calves. I have experienced drought, not a south western sask drought, but a black soil zone "drier" year. I think I and many people in this area would like to return to one of those years soon.

$100 an acre? Give me a break. Getting a little rediculous when you make way more money not seeding then seeding. Maybe the business paln would be to go to Freewheats country and buy some $500 land and receive $100 payments with 0 risk. 20% a year return. I can live with that.

DEAL VValk! You want it for 500 bucks? Come and get it. I will presume you are a southwesterner as well. Enjoy the costs associated to farming in wet conditions and having no crop.

But seriously, do you think 50 bucks would get you through?

Actually I am from Alberta and we have had about 9 inches of rain. farming is a business and in every business there is risk. Should every business in your local town get bailed out every time they run into some sort of trouble or just farmers. I am not even sure if Alberta has a unseeded acre benefit. Freewheat you seem to think you are the only farming area that has it so hard. There are other risks associated with farming then weather. Yes maybe we have less weather troubles then you but my land also costs me $2000 and acre and $5000 for irrigation. With that kind of land payment you dont think there is risk involved? Not everything is equal nor should there be blanket payments sent out to everyone. You pay accordingly for your land or rent and buy inputs and take some risk. Why should the govt bail you out if it rains too much or doesnt rain enough. In my mind govts should work to level the playing field with access to markets(tariffs subsidies CWB etc) and then if I cant compete then I can't compete. Getting a $100 payout because it rained too much is utterly rediculous. So I get my crop in and work my ass of all summer and throw everything at it to make $20 bucks if I am lucky or maybe lose $20 an acre yet if I got rained out then I gaurantee myself a $50 profit.

                                25% HRS
                                25% Canola
                                50% unseeded.

20% now F%^cked on acres seeded.

VValk, your way off base here.

                                $100/acre isn't profit.

Your saying you might make $20/acre, AFTER expenses.

$100/acre will barely cover most guys fixed costs. If renting land/ or making payments.

                                Big difference.
