Growing food is a paradox. Manure will kill you. Fertilizer is toxic... if a tractor/cultivator or seed drill; rolls over you... your dead too!

Tom - sometimes you come across like a verifiable
wing nut - too much water- too much of anything
will kill you! I never got sick spraying - did the
respirator, rubber gloves and splash apron. Sure,
when it's 95 above out and you're in a hurry, it's a
real pain. But then so is dying. One thing that needs
to be examined is the high rate of prostate cancer -
especially among neighbours and friends who are
heavily addicted to chemicals and don't bother with
protective equipment. At least that is my
observation. As for chemical companies being
concerned about your health, give me a break.
Remember Buctril M, advertised as one of the
'safest' chemicals you could use? Sure it gave a wide
window of safety to the crop you were spraying,
BUT, it had the lowest LD rate of any herbicide, just
barely above Furadan. Check those LD rates and
then apply some common sense. And if you're
spraying and not feeling very good, that should be
a bloody clue, don't you think?

As far as being a feminist, I'm afraid I'm a 'voluntarily stay at home professional', a non-traditional non-feminist who does exactly as I please, and can wash a bull, combine, paint, and swear, all before you finally roll out of bed in the morning. who owns 'those' anymore? Anachronism, maybe?
Sometimes his passions exceed his knowledge? My
comments regarding protective gear go back to a time
when 'organic' hadn't even occurred. I was just trying
to make a reference to 'common sense'. You know, the
kind like should I or shouldn't I wear a helmet when
tearing around on the quad? Fun and easy until you
have a wreck. Then what do you leave behind?
