    Mexican Farm Workers

Who do you really import into the farm community when you hire Mexican farm workers? Mexico appears out of control, as viewed by Arizona, Texas etc who's borders are besieged with hoodlums, gunmen, bandits and desperate vigilantes.

How do you know if these types ( http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/100614/national/canadian_death_mexico ) will work on your farms?

QUOTE "Biegel said Klowak and a co-worker were driving through the region when they came across a barricade put up by armed individuals.

According to Biegel, Klowak was chased by the gunmen as he charged through the road block but lost control of his vehicle before it rolled into a ditch.

"The gunmen then got out of their vehicle and shot him twice in the head."
    UNQUOTE.

I am guessing there is not too many Mexicans, that are involved in the drug cartel, that are willing to pick vegtables in Canada so we are probaly pretty safe.

Saying that, a freind of mine was recently stopped by a drug cartel roadblock in that general area and they let him and his crew of oilworkers thru the roadblock. He was the only Canadian in the group and was lucky i guess.

      Think like a drug cartel.

Why not "Supplement" the Mexicans working on farms with extra income, and use them as distributors right across Canada? Come back with the money or kill their families. Pars

        Are you serious?

I have been to Peidras Negras (and several mexican cities and vacation spots) and know quite a few of Mexican people personally. There are 100 million of them for crying out load and you have just lumped them all together.

These cartels are making 100s of millions of dollars and you think they are planting sales people, posing as farm workers? The money is in distribution not sales.

          One more time:

ME: "use them as distributors right across Canada"

YOU: "The money is in distribution"

I have several Mexican friends that have moved here
because they feared for the safety of their families due
              to the cartels.

Don't offend many honourable Mexican families that
have moved to Canada by assuming that these people
              are distributing drugs.

There are good Canadaians and bad Canadians.

There are good Mexicans and bad Mexicans.

                Isn't that a given?

But Mexico has a particular problem with drug cartels. Violence. Drugs. It's out of control.

Arizona has hordes of Mexico's migrant workers crossing the border every day as well as illegals invading their territory every single day. Drug runners and distributors are uncontrollable, and drug cartels constantly work to expand their territory.

Be aware. Agriculture in California does not attract Harvard grads to pick lettuce.

Desparation drives illegality, and as you will be well aware, past Canadian immigration policies with regards to Mexico, were naive at best, and were taken advantage of, hence changes were made.

Each of us can always point to one good guy we know, shaney. It's the illegals that become bold and enter, or the legals in country that don't exit(lose the, mselves in the crowd), that can really cause problems. Pars

It's an important question to ask, 'How do you know what temporary types will work on your farms?' Your entire farm family/unit, your children, your neighbors, will depend upon you to ask hard questions.

I experienced, first hand, one foreign worker who applied to the Royal Bank, (using the special SIN # issued to temp workers), to open an RBC account. He then applied for and got a bank card, and then immediately sent it to his friend in California to have it replicated. (200 Canadian bank cards are worth a lot of cash in some countries). He was in telephone touch with a network in Canada.

He had a wife and child in his home country, but didn't care if he returned home or not; it was never about earning money to help his family; it was about leaving his past life.

He referred to the scam with enthusiasm, while I listened quite speechless. Naive.

Screening should become important in the future and it is neither unfair to ask questions about people who temporarily work in our farm communities, nor stupid; rather it is prudent.

Indeed there are "several Mexican friends that have moved here because they feared for the safety of their families", and they most likely met the criteria for immigrating to Canada, but that does not necessarily mean that temporary workers meet the same criteria.

I will say this again: Desperation drives illegality. Pars

Jensend maybe the Chinese have started their own North American Opium war.
Parsley isn't most of that stuff organic, you should support it. Funny Saskatoon green house run by immigrant Chinese, imports labour done by mexican migrant workers.

I just love people that have no qualms about telling other people to shut the blank up.

What can be taken that's positive from a specific warning. Well, maybe that it should be applied in general. Something like a rural crime watch sign that has been posted.

Shaney, now your neighbours shouldn't get overly choked when they see your help moving into your big house. (lol)
