Being a marketing thread lets hear some more thoughts on this. Canola, oats, canary seed are all movin, what about hrsw, peas, lentils - whats the vibe out there? Larry, cotton? How long do we wait with stored non-board grains/oilseeds? I am thinkin about ten more days at least, but spring bills mounted up fast. Thoughts - opinions?

Start pricing canola @ $10.00....There is less than everyone thinks, and if it rains anymore....But how much will they pay? before it is out of reach?

It's never a bad thing to sell into a rally. Don't try to pick a top. Know where your break-even points are. And don't be scared to take a profit when you see one.

This crop will not get bigger , only smaller as the extent of the flooding damage is known. The U.S. is also getting wet feet, things could get really interesting.

I have yet to see an amazing canola crop, and it is June 15: the whole region is late, a very small percentage of the acreage of anything is seeded in ideal timing, we have a big rain in the forecast again, so I figure best to let the market worry, very simply because it has plenty of reason to. It is not like we are going to grow a bumper crop this year!

And for once the world may come to appreciate the crop we grow!

Now if only someone could tell Allan not to sell the wheat crop cheap.

if you think we're wet, here's a map of rainfall from June 8-15. now you know why the winter wheat harvest isn't going very well. the yellow areas of the map represents 8 inches in that time frame.

Will non Triffid flax, this Oct-Nov be priced with a 2 out front?

I have been calling this disaster since mid may, and heard every thing from quit complaining, you just whine to much, its only NE Sask, rain makes grain, etc etc. Reality is a foot or more of rain is a monsoon. Regina is on radar to get an additional 2 inches this next storm. Simply after spraying some 2000 acres of our land I am seeing one thing. Were loosing acreage each rain event. Their are huge areas that were seeded that are now gone. Plants cant sit in water. Period. This crop is getting smaller and smaller. Only problem I see cropping up is that when the seeded acreage report comes out guys will put full quarters down for crop insurance because most farmers know this crop could be toast come august with a frost and to maximize on crop insurance is better than the 50 acre. So it will seem that their are more acres seeded that their actually is.

interesting.

Last time I claimed unseeded acres, C.I. (Alberta) came out and GPS it. Mind you it was only a small area and not wide spread like this year. Will be claiming 1/3 unseeded this year!

Cotton giver Manitoba announced flood watches and 75mm Regina is calling for 50mm. Next week we need a poll on flooded out percentage. I think its higher than most want to admit.

yes chicken little you have but then you do at some point every other year too, you honestly can't wonder why people question you? This year you may just be right though.

Lock up the flax and canary bins. Let lentils get to 27-28 to start. Don't sell a bushel of canola below $10...but don't get greedy yet. Start selling a little oats at $2.50 (at the bin). There will be good pea prices right off the combine likely...not sure what number to start at there though... Feed barley and wheat could be in large supply if we get an early frost...if you see $4 FOB farm feed wheat, that would be a place to start selling if you want to move non board. Barley won't get too high...likely sell old crop at $2.50 FOB, new crop $2.75 to start....any others?

Yea MC what ever, Last year was a miracle that the crop got harvested. Period. Sky is falling yea right one rain in November and it was all over or frost in August. This year we have a monsoon and all said rain makes grain yea right. What ever travel people see whats out their not just in your little acre in the world.
Now on barley delivered last malt, we have few bins left they are considering taking it because of the crop problems that look to be appearing. Hm Barley turning yellow from over dose of moisture. Also peas don't like excess water. HM.
