Flijp said further down 6 inches for moosejaw to medicine?how big of an area?

    That would be a catastrophe

Lokks like we are on the north side of this, 1-2 inches here and more- alot more, as you go south and east from this area. Flood watches out for western Manatoba.

It use to be a one tenth rain and you would be seeding in a half hour, take the time for a coffee or fuel up.

Now we are sitting for a day. It just muds up, period.

But if it keeps raining the decisions get easier.

And the politicians, well, they are playing with us. The province says phone the feds, the feds say phone the province. Somebody better start talking because this is a 1 in 100 year event.

Been asking older people if they have ever seen this, and no one has.

Its a disaster and its not all about money. The young guys that are going to pack it in, are the best resource lost, as well as ruining the fields trying to get something done.

Find it funny that this gets zero media, but when GM and chrysler were going broke there was no end of news about help coming soon.

They could make cars in a rain event. All year long. They could generate cash flow. But they still needed help.

I get told our farm organizations should lead the request and where are they?

I think we are all aware that there is a problem developing but a methodical approach is worth considering for the following reasons:
        1. How do you fix a problem quickly based on the following....Some farmers around here went 24 hrs/day and were able to finish. Some went not as hard as they didn't realize that we would get 10" of rain and they are 70 - 80% done. Some didn't start until after the first week of May (as per usual) and they are at 50%. Some went hard but had a little more rain or have more water runs and they are at 50%. Some organic guys who wait for the wild oats to germinate, till and then seed are under 50%. Some that took on allot of land and are border line over-extended are under 50% done and gave up 1,000's of acres of custom work the first week of June. Some have land farmed by custom operators and were told the first week of June that they had to find another custom operator and now they are only 10% done if that.
        2. Giving $100/ac as per Link's suggestion makes those that mudded in their crop pissed off because if it only yields 20 bu/ac, they would have been better off sitting on their hands and not going hard.
        3. Growers that put canola on with a valmar and heavy harrowed or used a floater without harrowing are screwed if it doesn't germinate/yield good as they would have been better off with unseeded acre payments.
        4. Farmers are not in a cash flow crunch right now so politicians and bureaucrats have time to do things right. If anything, a L of C is lower than usual as one has spent less money or no money on inputs as acres are left unseeded. Not 1 bushel of this crop will be sold until late August at the earliest so a need tp rush for cash flow is BS. It only makes sense to see how the summer goes, develop or refine programs to handle the problems and be ready to go Sept 1 with solutions.

I could go on with many other situations but it is a complex problem that needs a well thought out solution.

Started seeding canola in april. Then seeded peas and flax then durum. Got 90% done and now 60% done spraying. Lots of crop drowned out but with the flax and canola was happy about this year. Now they are calling for 5" of rain in our area. Guess I will be in the same BOAT as everyone else now.

This all goes back to the fact that thre is not a disaster program. Agristability not meant for this but it could be goosed for one year. All the paperwork is in place, just lower the trigger. Giving cash payments on an adhoc basis would be very difficult.

Now calling for 3 inches in our area.

If i had to choose between a hundred bucks or
crop......it would take some time to make that choice
and i dont know what it would be.

Did you get any rain that stopped you in your tracks for 2 weeks straight?

June 6 till today, we have had 2.5 inches.

                    for another 2-3 inches here.

It is really coming down now.

How bad are the T-Storms near Assinaboia, Weyburn, Estevan areas tonight? Lots of color on radar, but moving fast. Will make for an indoor Progress Show.

Weyburn here lots of boomin and bangin with isolated downours so far... In dry years we call them lottery showers, this year i think Air Raids is a more apropriate description. You know its been a trying spring when while seeding you pretend your dodging IED's on the road to Kandahar and your dodging air attacks.... yikes. Maybe time for therapy.

I was thinking "water torture" on a massive scale. Downpour awoke me, more coming 6 o'clock low.
