    fertilizer leaching down???

I wonder how much fertilizer will leach down after all the rain?

Depends: on amount of rain, soil texture, and
    level of organic matter.

I know we've lost some in our sandier soil, but
less so in the heavier stuff. Don't know yet if the
crop will root into it anyway, depends on how far
    down it leached.

We are noticing lots of damage in fields that is
showing up only now a couple of weeks after the first
big rains, lots of yellow that is not going back green
and it seems worse on anhydrous fields. Canola has
gone into very early bolt, wheat not stooling, will not
be a good production at all. Once you go in field with
sprayer you wish you stayed out, very thin, that
horizontal look from road was way better.

So true RedRiver. Some tough decisions will have to be made on how much to spend on this crop. And it has not stopped raining. At least in the valley and more on the way for next week.

Thinking the same this morning, got it all sowed, some twice, patches 3 times.Hired planes and hiboys to get the spraying caught up. Came to the realization this crop will have a crop insurance claim.
Question is, given the hi probability of a major fusarium outbreak, do you spray fungicides to try and salvage the grade on a half(at best)crop.

See dtnprogressivefarmer.com for Friday, June 18, 2010 for nitrogen loss.
