Western Sask/Alberta Canola Crop

I would agree ado. We have been having excellent rains, excellent germ, and the potential for great yields.

Our canola yielded anywhere between 17bu/ac to 64bu/ac depending on what field got what shower. 3.7 inches of rain between May and August 15th and it got worse as you went west, all the way to Edmonton. Now I realize that 17bu/ac is more than the 0 that the lost acres this year. None the less it was a big area that typicaly produces big crops. I'm not saying that the production will be the same but I am curious as to how much the lost acres will be offset by a pottentialy bumper crop in Alberta and Western Sk where there was next to nothing last year?

I think Western Canada is in for a bumber crop again this year, because that is what I see out my back door.

In my travels between the outhouse and the house, I see nothing but beautiful crops. And I travel that path everyday.

Ado's land is worth more because he lives far away from Mr. doom and gloom SF3, who has killed the crop 3 times already this year and 8 times last year.

ado, there are some very good crops in this area and some awefull crops. Have you been up in a plane and looked down? I have, sunday a.m. in fact, and what I seen was 25% excellent, 25% good, 25% late and 25% very poor or so late that jack frost is lickin his lips. Our production here in the north west and into Alberta will be average at best accross the board IMO.

Travelled two hours along #48 Hwy today. A lot of canola. Some late, but glowy. Crops are generally patchy in the wet spots, but coming along nicely and even some fairly lush fields. Saw some reseeded fields. Some wheat. Never saw one field of flax. No peas. The alphalfa and brome stands are not up to par this year, generally patchy and not high stands. Saw a bit of later barley. I agree with that from what I saw spraying. But the further west and north and even south it gets slot better fast. Bigger, edam, lloyd all look pretty good.

I was you last year. I should bring up those threads from last year at this time when I mentioned "are things that bad". I got blasted for it. Quite similiar to you now!

Jesus, boys he's not down playing the disaster we have here. He's just SUGGESTING maybe the acres that are in good shape this year, could produce double of what they did last year. Thus maybe not having the complete train wreck we all suggest.

I actually agree with him the crops I 've seen around Wakaw, Cudworth all the way to Saskatoon are BEAUTIFUL!!

Now myself I'm F&*^ed this year.

Good thing I kept all those #2 oats in the bin, that everyone told me on here were feed last fall!

Ado, unlike the boys on here last year that told me to F&*8 myself for having a bumper, and they wern't, I won't do that. Good for you man if you got a great one this year!!

KY jelly I might kill this crop 3 times according to you but you cant kill what wasn't seeded, and that's a fact plus what was drowned out don't come back. So count your lucky stars you got something but your not going to create over production.
Simple math if our yield average was 55 last year and yours was 40 we will come in at 25 at best can you average 70 to 75 on all your acres. If you can then I am wrong but I bet you cant.

canola fields south of Calgary in general are just about to flower. Most are in the 1 to 10% flower stage. Some are more advanced but only a few. Most look really good but again will either need them to burn a bit or a lnog fall. I just drove from saskatoon. Swift Current to Rosetown was all lentils. Lentils everywhere especially to Kyle and more canola around rosetown with everything looking good right up to saskatoon. Late but way above avg. From rosetown to AB border was real nice as well but didnt think there was that much canola.

Last years average for us would have been about 24...the same as last year we are on the edge of where things go from bad to worse. The transition point this year where things go from ok to great. I know there will be less canola but question is how much. I wish I could say I have great crops but once again they are 40 miles down the road but there are some damn good crops every direction but east.
