MNP announces the CWB 2010 election of directors

Tuesday, September 7, 2010 – Winnipeg, MB –The Election Period for the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) 2010 election of directors was announced today by Meyers Norris Penny LLP (MNP), chartered accounting and business advisory firm. The Election Period officially begins Tuesday, September 7, 2010 and ends on Friday, December 3, 2010. Nominations for election of candidates to the CWB board of directors will be accepted between September 7, 2010 and October 15, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. Central Standard Time (CST). Candidate packages and additional election information are now available from Ian Craven, the election coordinator.
This year, producers will elect a member from each of CWB Districts 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 for a four-year term expiring in December 2014. Elections are held in five of the 10 CWB electoral districts every two years, to ensure continuity on the board of directors.
“Becoming a director provides producers with an opportunity to influence the future direction of the CWB, which represents all prairie grain producers,” said Ian Craven, the 2010 election coordinator with MNP. “Producers who are interested in becoming a member of the CWB board of directors should seriously consider candidacy.”

Candidate eligibility
Who is eligible for candidacy?
To become a candidate, a person must be:
(1) a Canadian citizen;
(2) 18 years of age or older as of the nomination filing date; and
(3) named in a permit book as an actual producer or be a shareholder in a corporation, a member of a co-operative or a partner in a partnership that is named as an actual producer.
A person may become a candidate in an electoral district in which he or she is an actual producer or in an adjacent electoral district.
Voter eligibility
Who is eligible to vote?
Producers are eligible to vote in 2010 if they:
(1) produce grain in CWB electoral districts 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9;
(2) grew any of the seven major grains (wheat, oats, barley, rye, flaxseed, ****seed or canola) in 2008, 2009 or 2010; and
(3) are an actual producer or entitled to a share of the grain grown by an actual producer.
Who is automatically on the voters list?
Producers named in a permit in the current or previous crop year and who delivered grain to the CWB in any of 2008-09, 2009-10 or 2010-11, are automatically on the voters list. If not, voter eligibility can be established through the election coordinator, Meyers Norris Penny.
How can a producer get added to the voters list?
If a grain producer meets the eligibility criteria but is not on the voters list, they can establish their eligibility by submitting an Application to Vote before November 19, 2010 along with one of the following:
· a crop insurance contract number;
· a grain delivery receipt or cash purchase ticket from a licensed elevator or grain dealer; or
· a statutory declaration.
