    This Has to Be Asked!

OK its Debbie Downer time again. Sorry looked hard for positive story on marketing the 2010 crop and found nothing today. Try again tomorrow.
OK here is question that probably is on most normal farmers mind. What if the weather pattern continues for the rest of Sept. Cold Wet cold wet Sunny day (Ill throw in wind) cold and finally rain. Here is how I see our area.
Total dryers in area New last fall 5 30 mile radius. Old stand buy batches 3. Total harvested if like yesterday 27.9 will be nothing. So then swath is also out of the question since a lot of swaths are sitting in water. Then Lodged crops, Yes their are a few later ones that had fert floated in June. These are touching ground and will grow shortly. So swath Canola maybe harvested if one were to get three windy days and just do hills. Duals are going on all over, No track units yet just dual sales are brisk. No 4 wheel kits yet, dealer said questions but no one ordered. Grain carts are popping up all over the place. Even on farms still using 3 tons. But again back to the question is it all for not if the weather doesn't change. This next week now this morning is mist mist mist rain sunny for next five days. Hm lots of harvesting weather. So even if the fall is a month delayed and we get two weeks in october how much of the 2010 crop can one expect to harvest in 14 days. For us 4 to dry out enough to start grain dryer. So 10 to harvest is 4800 acres going all out. No getting stuck etc. Full bore harvest. Like that will happen but its an example. Then winter sets in. That's only 56% for all of western Canada. Hm Simply put if the weather pattern doesn't break soon the Fat lady will get her show going and the Shit will hit the fan.
On a positive note it didnt freeze last night and Canola is up this morning.

    OK the Question?
If it continues with the same weather pattern for two more weeks and then breaks for 14 days what percentage of your harvest will get done.
    Ours is 56% of total.

      Saskfarmer3;

Ask the real old timer grain farmers...

OCTOBER is the REAL harvest month in western Canada.

We have just been spoiled for the past few years!!!

Tom I wish I lived in LA La land Alberta where it doesn't freeze it doesn't hail it never rains more than needed, its sunny windy and hot all the time. Realistically answer the question if the shitty weather continues how much will you harvest in 14 days. Do the math its easy grade two I think. Oh yea some of those farmers I talked to on weekend were still farming at 82 hate the CWB and they said looks like wont get this one.

If we had 14 days of harvesting we would be done. I'd think 80% overall would be harvested.

If you get the crop off and a few years for folks to forget about this one, I suggest you sell your farm in Saskatchewan and bye one a quarter the size in Alberta. The land of Milk and Money. Then you could enjoy a more relaxed and heart friendly approach to farming. In answer to your question, 14 days should about do it for me.

I don't know about other areas but it was fairly white around here this morning (EC Sask.) but I'm sure it didn't hurt anything! Ha ha ha! As I said in a previous post we will probably get this crop but as things drag on quality suffers badly and the whole thing turns into a salvage operation. I've seen this show before.

"if the weather pattern doesn't break soon "

You suffer from "predicting weather angst". Ah... lol

There is a difference between prediction and premonition, though.

                Prediciting is 'come-see-come-saw.'

Save yourself angst and start to panic only if you experience premonitions.

My plants tell me there will be a good frost this week and the weather will clear up. LOL Pars

Boy I hate spelling mistakes. Should have been "buy". I did however mean to say Money not Honey.

at the rate that harvest will take place i would need 20 days with 2-9770 deeres to get it done. That may not even do it. Im betting on max. 140 acres a day per machine.

I was going to say, balls to the wall 1000ac/week/machine. A guy should be able to combine that shitty canola at 6-7mph, 30 ft at a time. 14 days would get us pretty close to 80%. Farmin' ain't easy.

14 days of straight going we would be done.

As for myself with only 60 percent planted and mostly shitty canola I cannot imagine not getting it off even if I only have 1680s. That and the peas we should be able to fly at 6.5 miles per hour I think that is max in second gear without going into road gear. Wheat will be a different story gonna wish I had a bigger machine. But I planted 60 percent, must get that off. The summerfallow is what scares me the most for next year. Actually narrow tires on the sprayer must come off now any desicating will have to be done with wide tires. Best thing is everyone here would get done early so that we can let some water the hell loose.

I mean to say is if everyone here could get done early then we can let some water fly. That is the only way we are going to have a chance at planting this fallow.
At the beginning of sept., I thought it was possible to finish in Sept., not now. At least the first propane fill was cheap.

Oldtimers have talked about Indian (1stNations) Summers where they get a break in the weather and are combining / threshing in November in their shirt-sleeves.
