    Dry wheat last night

Hard to believe here in Central Alberta that a warm windy day could bring the crop so far. Have been working on dessicated standing HRS wheat. Thursday afternoon tested 24, Friday afternoon 21, yesterday started at about 18.5 around noon and last night at about 7:30 was testing 14.1. Still making a #3. Chance of shower no longer in the forecast. Hoping everyone can get rolling soon. We've had about 20 inches of rain over the summer but are managing in the field. Grain cart helps a lot.

Good to hear Craig. What's the degrading factor?

      I'll bet "rain" or HVK.
Ask the CGC how that affects milling quality.
Better yet ask the CWB, they seem to be the advocates. All on behalf of their customer of course.
      Never mind the farmers though.

Your right gustgd. Alot of farmers don't know how to assess what they have produced or what the detrimental effects the degrading factors have on the end use.
They have to be told by the very people that are buying it from them. Board and non board. We have learnt how to grow it, not what we have grown.

Wheat has some bran frost, some bleaching. We were
-5 when the crop was quite wet. Considering the
conditions we didn't think 3 was a bad grade. We top
dressed some nitrogen at heading and protein coming
in around 13.4. With protein premiums that gets us
over $6.00 on an FPC. In an area where ones and twos
aren't that common we can live with that.

HVK is only a grading factor on 1CWRS and Durum. Winter Wheat, CPS, 2CWRS and lower, all had HVK dropped 2 years ago. I would be surprised if the #3 CWRS grade has changes after the October CGC standards meeting. Even grainco's are saying to hold off new crop till new grades are reviewed then.

Nice CWRS in central AB is grading a #4 on 2009-10 standard samples. Frost.

We are having headaches with the protein payments on Winter wheat as some grainco's have not entered the new Winter Wheat up to 11 then 11-14px payments in their systems yet. Check your payments to make sure they are on the initial payments now.

How many know 11.5 CPS Red has a px premium?

Chance of showers turned into about a tenth of an
inch. So much for the chance of combining more dry
grain in the next few days We will continue to run
when we can and keep the dryer running.

They got 20 three day rain events right all summer...think the 2 weeks of sunny warm is wishful forecasting just to give farmers hope and stop us whining and crying. We will see if it's bullsh*t soon enough if there is rain in forecasts tomorrow! A pile of clouds in BC, showers tonight.
