The trouble is that fertilizer industry is an oligopoly. So they can raise price with bearish fundamentals. We need offshore supplies to arrive in order to stop the escalation. We used chinese urea in 2009 with excellent results. Hoping similar product shows up this winter.

Since your comment is probably pointed at me charlie with the cutting back expenses. Its simple actually, this year prime example Dealer convinced guys to over spend and over spend on crop that was doomed since spring. Now a few are in trouble in our area, Hm how easy it will be to buy them out. But I will have competition from the Dealer who sold them the product. You do your math ill do mine.

It seems to me that with the rally in grain prices everyone is going to plant everything and try to max out on yields. I am going to price some fertilizer...maybe not all I need for next year but some. I just don't see it going down and I paid through the nose last time it went through the roof.

Average is the most useless stat there is. A few verry high numbers can offset allot of pretty marginal numbers. That means that in reality there could be a third of the acrew that are exceptional with rest being fairly poor. The poor yielding areas won't have a pile of excess cash.

Any farmer that doesn't realize that sometimes we can make more money off a 5 minute phone call than we can make in a week on the tractor had better get a time machine so they can go back to the 60s.

It's funny how prepaying inputs was a tool to manage tax exposure. Now that's been flipped on us by the industry as way of extorting our money out of us 10 months earlier.

I have to agree that something is wrong. Pay for the fertilizer in the fall of 2010, seed the crop 2011, get paid 50 to 75 % of your total payments fall of 2011 to July 2012 and get paid in full final payment in December 2012.
