So far this fall, I'd have to say Richardson's. Most everyday their non-board prices are lower than others. Also their delivery contracts state "Estimated Freight", so your always crossing your fingers that the basis doesn't change. Just sold New Crop durum for #2 without having to blend it with last years(good #2) at Viterra, won't complain about that, this year! Richardson's weren't interested in buying for #2, even if I blended with last years.
Sometimes I think timing is just as important as anything, when you take your samples in. What cars they're looking to load, and what stocks they have instore. By Christmas the co.'s might be reversed.

your right its the staff that make the difference. Used to be Paterson had all the mojo here but not so much anymore. Reason being staff personality and service. Viterra has been the best here IMO in the last year and thats hard to say with a straight face

One company might follow the grading standards to the letter. The next one will give you a better deal on grade or dockage for whatever reason. Who's screwing who? Maybe the grade of what we think it is, isn'.
And for those of us that are being "screwed", then maybe we've done something to deserve it.

Cargil is the worst here....
They won't buy oats that doesn't grade #1. They won't buy canola that doesn't grade #1. They won't buy wheat that doesn't at least grade #2.
They won't buy feed barley under 49lbs (and 48lbs is standard weight).
Their canola basis is always between -36 and -45... and their grain buyer complains about not getting any grain. Makes ya wonder.
