Well first it was Stillborn and yorkton selling and now Friday we learn that TriWay is done in Balcarres. Good deal for Ron bad bad bad deal for me. Enjoy your time off.
Now Cargill takes over, But here is a problem some will have. Cargill doesn't do anhydrous so looks like we might be hooped. Viterra does out of Melville and Southey so maybe but as for independents that's it. Blair is to far away.
Yes if Cargill came and offered me millions I would be done with farming to but guess what they never will, need slaves to feed the elevators.

Why are you surprised? The stated goal of the large ag companies is a controlling share of the market, whether it is crop inputs or grain handling. The consequences of large farms and decreasing margins will work their magic till the feudal system is back.

They were already more than half Cargill before this transaction.

What do you expect would happen to these guys if everyone keeps thinking that those 25 cent basis deals are so great or paying a someone $9/ac for agronomic advise they would offer for that extra $3/box that was too much for people to pay.

With record unseeded acreage and the potential for high unseeded acres next year it can't be too rosy selling agriculture inputs.

Lots of dealers are still recovering from the fertilizer price crash of a few years ago. It must hurt buying high priced fertilizer and having to sell it for much less.

Probably be more farm sales also next spring.

Yes they got a portion of our buisiness. But it was getting less each year.

There will be more independents going if they keep chasing each other to the bottom for Best Price. The big chemical companies are going to have to get rid of their volume incentives, and offer their dealers and customers their best price up front.

A successful business is going to sell less, but make a better bottom line by setting their price to make money, but providing the service to justify it. Too many dealers are expected to have the best price and the best services. It doesn't work that way if you want to stay in business.

If you want service, convenience, and reliability you are going to pay for it.

Did learn their is a new buying group. OK they don't like to be called that. Their independents from all across Canada. One we will be using in 2011 is part of that group. Before as Triway the price on certain chemical was 2.90 now 2.48. So maybe the independents learned that working together makes them more money and they don't have to sell out to big guys to compete.
