Increases to initial payments are likely to receive government approval later this month for producers who have delivered wheat, durum and barley to the CWB so far in the 2010-11 crop year. The CWB made a recommendation to the federal government to increase initials on Sept. 3. Following a significant rise in markets and difficult harvest conditions in Western Canada, the CWB submitted a revised recommendation on Sept. 29, in order to get more money to farmers faster. The revision means farmers will receive the full adjustment sooner than if the original recommendation had been approved, followed by a second recommendation reflecting the change in market conditions. If approved by the federal government, the revised recommendation would increase payments to the base grades of wheat, durum, feed barley and malting barley in the range of $50 to $70 per tonne. The timing of payments cannot be confirmed until government approval is received, according to a process set out by the CWB Act.
The CWB has announced that it will accept 100 per cent of all Prairie farmers' wheat and durum offered for delivery under Series A contracts.
Farmers are reminded that the sign-up deadline for 2010-11 Fixed Price Contracts (FPCs) and Basis Price Contracts (BPCs) is Jan. 31, 2011. In previous years, the sign-up deadline was the end of October. At the time of sign-up, farmers have the option of instructing the CWB to apply deliveries previously applied to the pool to an FPC or BPC.
WeatherFarm™, the CWB’s online agronomic and weather information portal for farmers, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the “Ag Innovations Award” at Red Deer’s Agri-Trade show, Nov. 10 to 13. The award is designed to recognize innovations as they are developed in the industry and reward those who invent new products and processes or significantly improve existing ones.
CWB offices will be closed for Remembrance Day on Thursday, Nov. 11. However, Producer Payment Option (PPO) prices will be available that day, and farmers can sign up PPOs via e-Services or fax.
Farmers are reminded to lock in their 2010-11 December Basis Price Contract by Nov. 23 at 9 p.m. CT. Prior to the deadline, farmers who priced the basis first have the option to roll their contract to a different futures month. Futures-first contracts cannot be rolled. Contracts unpriced by the deadline receive the Nov. 23 value.
Delivery contracts for most CWB Identity Preserved Contract Programs must be submitted by Nov. 15. For more information, go to www.cwb.ca/ipcp, and then select 2010-11 program.
Farmers are asked to deliver Nos. 1 and 2 Canada Western Amber Durum where possible. Grain deliveries have not kept up with customer demand due to wet yards and the late harvest. Now that harvest is largely complete, farmers are asked to make durum deliveries in order to meet existing sales commitments."
