    Carbon Credits

Have done the credit apps for farmed land and was wondering if others have? The program is from 2002 to 2009 and is a fair chunk of change especially since it goes to the farmer and not the renter.

          Hi Wd9,
did you check around with different aggregators,
last year when I looked into it the commisions
they took ranged from 15-45%. I talked to Terra
Verde, funny thing is they were out of Sask for an
Alberta program. Is Sask doing credits now?
What do you mean it goes to the farmer not the
renter. My understanding is that it is based on
how the land is farmed, eg no till which is the
person who is working the dirt.
Are you on the lower or higher side of the line?
          curt

I just compared a couple but since this is the end of the year and may be the end of the program too for that far back i just went for ECC who payed more the viagra's. Also thought even some money is better then none at all.

If you rent land the landowner can demand a portion of the payment but it is the farmer, ie the one who actually did the farming of the land, that qualifies for the money and does the application. You need the owners signature to get the money though and a portion can go to the owner.

Since this money is in the past and is a government program, i would have thought more would have done it and am surprised by the lack of posts. Guess there is more money in bitching about the CWB.

Also the question needs to be asked is should i conventional till on my crop insurance so as to 'start again' being a sink?

What type of dollars are they offering?
Is it a set amount or pooled average?

I tried looking online but few real details other than to contact.

What would be some of the reasons to go with a ECC rather than a Viterra, do they essentially all try to aggregate and are simply competing on admin costs?
Our farm had went with C-green aggregators in the past but it took a long time to finally get full payment, which was less than we had hoped.

              Is the GST problem fixed?

              thanks

ECC was about 15% higher then Viterra.

Whatever the price, its free money that all you have to do is stick out your hand and take it.

Viterra will top it up by a percentage (can't
remember how much) if you leave it on account.
ie. Spend it on inputs ther and they'll pay you
more. Might be worth it if you buy there already.

                    Thanks
That's about what I was thinking.

I may not agree with human induced climate change, but that doesn't change the fact that people who do, want to relieve their guilt.
IF VANOC and Air Canada want to pay people to to remain "carbon neutral" they might as well be giving me the money.

Viterra will increase your payment by 10% if you apply your payment to your IFL or credit account for future purchases.

Viterra also has a deal with Enmax Energy to sell the Credits to them, so no waiting is involved. Other companies need to sell the credits before they can pay you. This is a big plus for Viterra doing the purchasing.

Viterra is only trading in Alberta.
Sk govt still working on it.

Maybe your all right that one should take the money and run. No one says what kind of dollars per ton we are working with here, is it 3? Doesn't anyone think that is kind of low? And they don't tell you that there is eventually going to be a dead end where you cannot sell anymore which there must be. Wasn't heavy harrowing and cultivating frowned upon if your selling credits? Seems to be a lot of tilling going on around here and many I believe sold credits, Sask. crop ins. was the verifier.

Its based on what you have done, not will do. A gov program to make pollutors feel good, and as said above, i may as well get some money from it.

2 bucks a tonne i think is what it works out too or right around there.
