    Parsley,
Sorry to hear that you are down on science and research. Having dissenting views and results is a normal part of science. Science driven by corporations that have a product to sell or an industry to protect is certainly suspect. But basic research that trys to explain the natural world and how are bodies work have led to some very important discoveries. Making the generalization that all science is biased because of its' funding source is just wrong. Most of the climate research out there is paid for by tax payers. Scientists and science are not perfect. What would you suggest as an alternative to science?

Isn't everyone just a little twitchy about 'studies'?

        Chucklers:
        Don't eat eggs.
Eat all protein all meat diet
        Avoid carbs
        Eat carbs
        Growth harmones won't effect anyone.
        Mercury fillings are benign.

You know what I mean. If you don't you should. Pars

          Pars,
You are right about conflicting studies in some areas of research. But when the overwhelming majority of climate scientists support the position that the climate is becoming warmer because of human activity then perhaps we should pay attention. Of course there are dissenting opinions. Some based on politics, some on science. For decades the tobacco industry vigorously denied a link between smoking and lung cancer. We know why. Was there argument based on sound science? Apparently not. But they invested heavily in denial and discrediting the science that showed a link.

No matter what we do, fossil energy sources will eventually be replaced by other sources of energy. This will reshape the world we live in. Unfortunately any substantial increase in fossil energy prices will push many economies into recession or depressions. Cheap energy has powered our increase in standard of living. China is increasingly using more and more energy as their standard of living increases. What will happen when energy resources become more difficult to secure. There is alreay a backlash against China's interest in our oil sands.

Well, those "overwhelming majority of climate scientists" also had difficulty not recognizing, but telling the truth.

"energy difficult to secure" : Hey, chuckiecowboy, there is enough oil in the Bakken underground, throughout the Dakotas and Saskkatchewan, to look after Canada's energy supply every year until lilacs decide to not bloom.

Do you know who is leading the orchestrated charge against the oilsands? A well funded group.

Georgie Soros is a name you may want to google. Pars

Comedia is a rogue state right now. It has a phoney carbon market, which is doin nothing to solve any pollution problems. Fort Mcmoney looks like a moonscape, what a total fnnnn mess. Schemmers should plan a meeting there, and focus the world's attention on that ongoing disaster. Phoney reclamation plan filed by multination oillys, will ultimately end up haunting Comedia fer years to come. PC's see nothing butt progress, butt they are an fnnnnn joke 2, they just don't know it either....

Just returned from Winterpeg this morning. Global warming seemed absent.

To address the issue of whether to trust the scientific method or not I have some examples.

                    1. The study undertook to determine why banana peels are slippery that concluded that they really are NOT slippery. Hearsay.
                    2. The autopsy that failed to find the cause of death of the decapitated body. Hearsay.
                    3. The nameless parties who convinced Jack Howell that 10 billion bushels of corn in a pile would be 10 miles in diameter and 4 miles high. Thats actually 10 TRILLION bushels which would take roughly 1000 current U.S. crops to amass. Heard it with my own ears.

The point of this is that scientists are people and we are notoriously fallible. So when my fellow (wo)man says give me your money to save the earth I'm not buying. It is possible that they would use it to worse effect than I.

Pars, you tolerate the intolerant admirably. HT

                      Note the date.
Ever wonder why the oilsands is in the news? The papers/media love rich funders. (money growing in tax-free havens).

                        chuckchuck,

I've thought about your "collective denial" and "ignoring problems" observations.

Compared to moose, or spiders, or ducks, I actually observe man has instead, built upon experience and facts, and is a problem solver!

Homo Sapiens even thought about walking upright, the hereafter, and writing in caves!

I am impressed with man. You need to buy new glasses and take a fresh look at your boyfriend and neighbors.

Pars. Good point about our problem solving capabilities which have allowed us to rise to the top of the food chain.

Went to Wpg and then to central Mn to look at a tractor. Advertised on web as NA built, sold in Europe, shipped back used with low hours. I found out that they are low hr only because the meters only show 4 digits. Not a cheap way to find out but cheaper than buying one. On the plus side it seems a JD 77 or 7810 is good for 15000 hrs. Hwere is an excerpt from Oxfam's Website. Global warmers spenders like this one get one penny of money from me. How about your money?

"Oxfam in Cancún: The UN climate change summit
                              29 Nov - 10 Dec 2010

Twelve months ago, the world’s eyes turned to Denmark, where world leaders from more than 100 countries came together for the Copenhagen UN climate summit. What should have been a historic moment in the fight against climate change, ended as an historic failure.

One year on, the need for action remains the same. Oxfam will be there as delegates meet again, this time in, in Cancún, Mexico. We’ll be continuing to campaign for funds to help poor people adapt to the effects of global warming and for a radical reduction in emissions." Pars
