Absolutely no to banning someone - who are you guys to decide whether someone is allowed the freedom of speech? Will you ban posts by NFU members next? If someone posts stupid stuff it only reflects on them, if you don't like someone's posts don't read them. Freedom of speech should be unconditional in a democracy.

Grassfarmer,
Freedom?
Threatning sexual assult on folks daughters and life partners is illegal.
So is stealing our wheat:
"Private property rights do not conflict with
human rights. They are human rights.
Private property rights are the rights of
humans to use specified goods and to exchange
them. Any restraint on private property rights
shifts the balance of power from impersonal
attributes toward personal attributes and toward
behavior that political authorities approve. That is
a fundamental reason for preference of a system
of strong private property rights: private property
rights protect individual liberty." Armen A. Alchian

1. Agriville is not a publicly-owned site.
2. What fee do you as farmers pay to use AV?
3. What responsibilities do anonymous posters assume when Joe Dales is sent a letter threatening libel?
4. Is Agriville your privilege or your right?
5. Why do you think you should be able to sit in your office and dictate rules?
6.Do you believe in 'mob rules'.
7. Do you actually believe you have earned the right to, 'vote'?
How soon farmers forget about property rights and ownership. And how quick farmers are to tell Joe Dales how to run Agriville. Pars

Freedom of abortion, freedom of gay
marriage, freedom of criminals, freedom of
speech if it fits your mold, freedom of
everything. It is the liberal way.
But freedom for western farmers? Not a
chance. The party of the tolerant is made
up of an interesting bunch. LOL

You only earn freedom of speech when you are willing to make those same statements in public and are willing to be held accountable and willing to defend that position or opinion in public as well as behind a pen name .
There is a great danger in cowardly spouting off untrue; vulgar; harmful; disparaging remarks from the safety of anonymity. Those attacks, and their damage can be minimized by deleting those posts immediately; and requesting that next time they are repeated that it be done in public. Its a matter of enforcing a code of ethics and conduct that we are all expected to observe on this or any other site.
Its easy to pick out the obvious inappropriate and/or badly worded comments. Nine out of ten people will reach the same conclusion in a fraction of a second. And things like an NFU opinion are not anywhere near being in that class.

You can post any comments you want, oneoff. But ie Parsley or gregpet cannot dictate whether or not it should be deleted, or whether oneoff or sadie be censored or even banned.
It's not my or your site.
Being indignant doesn't qualify you to presume ownership of this site.
And taking a straw vote doesn't give us the right to dictate rules on this forum.
Joe can delete if he so chooses.
And bad posts ARE in the final analysis, traceable. Site owners, with a little time, can trace most anonymous posts.
And thus, the postee can become VERY accountable. Pars

Burbert/BTO leaves stinky turds of incoherent
blather on almost every thread.
We have no right to tell Joe Dales to get out the
shovel, but he doesn't, eventually the only
animals left in this barn will be the pigs.
I, for one, am getting tired of overlooking the
turds.
Blessings in the New Year to all those here who
genuinely want to discuss ways to improve the
farming industry.

I'm all for defending free speech. It's a right and a
responsibility. With it also comes results. Persuasion or
consequence? I've gone back and read some of the
previous posts of BTO. What would be the result of this
"free speech" talk in your local pub or a community hall?
This is a public forum of sorts, should not the results be
the same? The community accepts the challenged
individual as is and tolerates/ignores it or the guy's a
jerk and gets the crap beat out of him a few times. Are
we certain BTO is the jerk or does he have serious
problems needing professional help? Not sure which is
more disturbing, someone intentionally writing as he
does or the thought of him typing out his "manifesto"
under the haze of a dim bulb....
