Of course this is a long running hoax as farmers_son points out - I thought even Tom might have heard of it before.
On the other hand does McDonalds putting out a press release backed by CCA provide conclusive proof? In other words how much do we trust them?
In Scotland there was a case where the NFU there pulled some beef of a Tesco store shelf that was branded "Scotch Angus beef" and had it DNA tested and conclusively proven to be of Bos Indicus origin (that is to say of Brahma type cattle - most likely indicating south American imported being passed off as a Scottish branded beef product) Just saying...

We don't eat alot to begin with at the Big M but sure as heck won't now until we know for sure it is Canadian Beef there or any other outlet for that matter when we are travelling. There almost should be a list of restaurants food chains etc. that gives this info, maybe there is one already anyone know?

as for Mac donalds , i never though the amount of beef in their burgers even counted.

Md's VP of procurement stated emphatically at the Livestock ID conference in July that they buy only Canadian beef for their Canadian Stores. However he also said that if and when we can not supply the necessary volume they will not go short. That brings up the worry that Canada will not be able to supply enough lean trim by June this year. The US ran into this problem in Dec. If we can't supply the needs of the consumer you can rest assured that Md's will import hamburger.

I don't care where my big Mac comes from. Just as long as it is safe to eat and tastes good. Comedia has a dismal record, when it comes to meat safety, (ie Maple Leaf) offshore beef is probably better for you and safer to eat than Comedian cow er pig ifn there is any pork left in Comedia! There it had to be said, now chew on that fer a while, popular or not things are the way they are.

I agree on one point the surveilance is not that good, but even if it was pumping animals full of growth stimulants is considered ok by our regulators not me. However I maybe am just a HOMER but I see the way my neighbors raise their livestock and I trust what they tell me is in the rations. However after it leaves their yard to the feedlots who knows. But who the hell knows what other countries' standards are, and our inspectors appear to inspect the foreign stuff even less. So I'll stick to supporting the Canadian producer.

1) This is the 3rd time I have seen this McDonalds thing pass through the email world over the past 2 years. Hoax. Nothing more.

2) Canada has kept within the first level import quotas to comply with WTO requirements but has not used the supplementary quota option since they were closed off after the BSE wreck. This was due in part from ABP speaking for us. They continue to hold that position and monitor through ACC in Ottawa.

3) I've been told from a semi-credible source that McDonalds gets their beef shipped in from Quebec because it is cheaper. The dairy industry in Quebec is quite stable so their contracts for supply are guite sure.
