the reason we have subsidies is because of the french farmers, who dont take no jive from anybody. slightest drop in prices etc and they block all the roads, hold the country to ransom. they have political power collectively.
they chopped all their landlords heads off in 1789, and never looked back.

Don't forget about fairly recent history guys[mid 80s-early 90s]where land actually devaluated? Or the years we tried to figure out which crop would lose us the least amount of money?I'm older and wiser this time around but still have to temper my optimism with reality!A comfortable,quality way of life can quickly be eroded or jeoprodized by low prices for our grain and higher interest rates,ETC.

Just wondering, where does economy of scale end -20,000, 60,000, 100,000 acres ?? When does the FAMILY farm become the problem.. How much does it take to live comfortably?? No people in rural areas meens no towns, no services.

Economies of scale is a large as you can keep employees to do the work. If stress of harvest, seeding and weather (and CWB) turns you into an a$%#LE, then you have too many acres.

Yes Greg just the facts.
One gets to a certain size that they enjoy, Building wealth is simple process.
McDonald's is prime example they don't lease the property that their restaurants are on they own it. Simply now their the largest land owners out their higher than the catholic church. But if they used the speakers attitude they would have just flipped burgers. Farming is same think out side the box. Getting rid of CWB and seeing what a big world is out their is maybe the way.

"One gets to a certain size that they enjoy", that appears to be unattainable once ego and greed over power common sense. It could be a hell of an empty, lonely place in 20 years if 30% of the farmers swallow the rest of us. Some might get so huge that instead of using hired labor, they will rent the land to other suckers, er farmers, and so the cycle begins with the next time the peasants are fed up with the rich landlords.
