Quite some years ago, the St Lawrence Seaway region/ Eastern ports were in a financial twitch because their harbors were deteriorating,& needing dredging, & their lake traffic and profits declining etc.

A project was undertaken to fix St Lawrence and terminal and port woes.

In a nutshell,it was recommended to slam more Western grain through the East. Pars

I agrees wit yous here on Angriville. We
should continue to think SMALL. Greed,
snivelling and whinning will carry the
day. Any progressive move forward steps,
taken by the CWB should be quashed
        immediately!!!!

i would like to see the blue prints for these ships. I am concerned there may be no fitness rooms or child care facilities for the staff.

I may be wrong but... Was Kornechuck not on Sask Wheat Pools board of Directors, when their reach exceeded their grasp?

We just had an election this issue did NOT come up once? or is it as Kim Campbell once said "elections are no place to talk about issues"

I have heard this issue though. It was at the Combine to customer course in 2004. At that time though they were talking Ocean freight.

You heard it here first folks.

I guess since these ships are purchased from China we can expect to maybe see increases in shipments there? Right? I take it there are no North American shipbuilders anymore? There wouldn't be any political influence on the choice of ships purchased would there?

                    Agstar77,

You can buy all the ships you want.... and keep whatever you make.

DO NOT charge this to the CWB pool accounts...

I must already cross subsidise your freight to east coast ports...

NOW my family must buy you boats to send your grain east?

There is no way my grain will ever use your ship Agstar77!

So I am expected to cross subsidise the titanic... while you shift the deck chairs?

WOW... ONLY in Canada... you say?

They should stop the purchase.Dissolve the directorate. Have an election to decide on this issue. Isn't that what we do in normal decmocracy. But the deal will go thru, and decsions will be made by a ruling junta. Dictatorship at its best.

Sorry, it says the import tariff was taken off last year. Maybe Mr. Ritz has friends in China also.

Connect the dots. Is there not a couple of ex cwb and good old Liberalano's recently in charge of one of those Thunder Bay ports??? With these new ships they got control of our grain/money completely now as it heads east of Winnipeg??? Ah the good old Paul Marten days....

since we own them we should be able to use them for non board grains as well, whatever we see fit. Whatever will make us the most money right. Not just leave it float for the perfect time to dock it at port and lose revenue sitting there for 6 weeks waiting for Durum to come because stupid farmers weren't out combining in the rain this year.
If we truely had control of the ships it would work but not to leave them at the hands of the CWB.
The Pirates of Western Canada!!! And its a hee hee hoe hoe comin down the plains, stealing wheat and barley and all the other grains.

The CWB present board of directors[with the exeption of a couple]remind me of when the NDP was in power in saskatchewan-they're political ideology scared me to the point of contemplation of moving out of the province. What a glorious day it will be when Harper wins a majority and gets rid of these clowns including Ian White who lost his balls in sanfranscisco.
