Great idea. Think the ad should include a statement that this ad was paid by farmers and reflect the opinion of all those who took it out. The CWB ads which you will see are also paid by farmers but do not reflect the opinion of all those who paid for it. Think the average Canadian does not care about the money lost by farmers but if they realized it was a human rights issue they may listen. Good luck. Got my support.

I think the wheat growers are pressing the issue in Ottawa. On writing, Fransico is one of the best on AV. His articles in farm papers are great. Don't discount the use of op-ed pieces in the Globe etc. Ads are really expensive and why let the CWB suck anymore money out of your lives. Don't cheat yourself for an attack on what is a bottomless pit (farm policy).

so who is paying the 500 bux for "The CWB Monitor" ?? As depape is on here, perhaps he can tell us what the 500 is for. 1500 subscribers lets say at 500 a pop is a lot for money for research and cutting and pasting from your office. I would feel good about it if i knew some of the money was/is being dedicated to websites, advertising, mob organization etc. Not sure if i want to pay just so i can start my blood boiling everytime i read it. We need to get this out on the street into the general public.

CHecking,
With all the revenue the CWB is trying to steal from us... I suppose it should not be challenged as an actual approved CRA business expense to expose CWB corruption and useless waste of our money.
Like deer/elk piddling and eating on grain piles or wrecking bags of grain... a family SHOULD be allowed to defend themselves!!!
I reserved both .ca and .com so we can pick whatever the majority like or link the two together.
If someone knows a web provider or skilled person with time and initiative to work on this... they can contact me at;
info@talkingeskimo.com
Cheers!

Like most others, I see the CWB single desk debate over the years as mostly just spinning wheels. There is ample evidence that the CWB system is broken but because we can’t get any traction, nothing substantial happens. That needs to change.
This is going to take changing people’s minds. A while back I wrote about the folly of the board of directors in using despatch earnings to assess management performance. I note that in the latest Annual Report, they no longer use despatch as a management performance measure. I take that as a small victory.
But to get the change that is needed, it’s going to take more than just writing. (I don’t get any pleasure out of making your blood boil.)
The CWB Monitor is not a newsletter. It’s a campaign. A campaign to reform the CWB.
Just like in politics, the CWB needs an opposition to keep them honest and accountable.
If you want a newsletter or service to help with marketing decisions, sign up for Wild Oats, Weber Commodities, Kostal Ag Consulting or FarmLink Solutions – John, Larry, Greg and Brenda each have a different approach but all do a good job. But if you want to get involved in a grass-roots campaign that is aimed at getting meaningful CWB reform (like the removal of the single desk), they can’t help you. That’s where the CWB Monitor comes in – to provide ideas and solutions.
My objective is to get this thing fixed. I started writing during the CWB election to bring to light issues that most farmers would not be aware of. Not to make your blood boil; rather to help farmers make informed decisions – particularly during a CWB election.
I will continue to research issues and write and talk about them – directly by email, in letters to the editor, opinion pieces and speaking engagements. I already spend time lobbying in Ottawa (meeting with MPs (the Minister), bureaucrats, Standing Ag Committee, etc) and plan to do more. I have met with CWB senior staff and board members numerous times and will continue as long as they will meet with me. I will be doing all of this with the singular focus of correcting what is costing farmers (and the western economy) a great deal – the single desk.
A fundamental focus of mine has been, and will continue to be, CWB communications. It’s a shame that the CWB has been allowed to say just about whatever it wants to say and never be challenged. My goal is to become the “go to guy” on CWB issues for the main farm press and to correct the CWB every time it says something publicly that is misleading or incomplete.
I suspect I will be very busy.
The CWB Monitor website will be the “go to” site for all things related to the CWB (not my current blog – a real website, currently under construction).
So what do you get for 500 bux?
- Competent, independent analysis
- Op-eds, letters to editors
- Articles in magazines and main stream media
- Speaking engagements
- Seminars
- Lobbying
- Meaningful surveys
- Exposure of real-life farmer’s experiences with the CWB
- A web-based information resource
- Support for “choice” candidates in the next CWB election (it’s less than two years away)
- A competent, relevant dedicated challenger to the CWB; and not just me. I will bring in others where possible
- Something that has never been done before
I've been doing this along time. I used to post here on Agriville for years as Chaffmeister. I don't need to be anonymous anymore.
I estimate the economic impact of the single desk on western Canada at about a $1 billion loss per year. Based on 50 million acres of principle grains, the CWB system is costing you $20/acre, or $3,200 per quarter (regardless of what you’re growing).
If fixing that’s not worth the price of admission, I don’t know what is.
