My brother has travelled to the Ukraine a number of times since the Orange Revolution in 2004. He has been there three times as an election monitor and three time business related. Our grandfather fled western Ukraine in 1902 to come to Sask.(I thank him for that) My brother was amazed on the size of the aradable land base. They went by bus from Kyiv to the Black Sea approximately six hours (Calgary to Regina) the land hardly changed table top flat. The soil is black with no grit in it at all. He also spent time in the eastern part up to the Russian border. His present business puts him in contact with a lot of large farms some that are 100000 acres . Check out youtube under "Harvest Ukraine" it will give you some idea of the agricultural advancement that has been made there since they gained independence in 1991. If they could get their political house in order they could become major player on the world agricultural stage.
