"Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff won’t be counting on his wife’s vote on May 2 because she is not a Canadian citizen, the Toronto Sun has learned.

Zsuzzana Zsohar, Ignatieff’s Hungarian-born wife, is a landed immigrant who still hasn’t obtained citizenship in Canada, Liberal party officials confirmed on Wednesday.

Until she becomes a citizen, Zsohar cannot vote or hold some government jobs.

Liberal party spokesman Michel Liboiron said Zsohar is a landed immigrant “but applied for her Canadian citizenship as soon as she was eligible.”

She “is waiting in the queue like every other new Canadian for her application to be reviewed,” he said.

Zsohar, 64, holds Hungarian and British citizenships.

Ignatieff and Zsohar met in London, England, in 1995 while Ignatieff was doing a television series on ethnic nationalism for the BBC, where Zsohar was in charge of publicity.

The couple moved to Cambridge, Mass., in 2000 when Ignatieff became director of the Carr Centre for Human Rights.

They moved to Canada in 2005 and bought a Yorkville condo. By January 2006, he was MP for Etobicoke-Lakeshore.

The previously married Ignatieff is a father of two grown children, Sophie, 24, and Theo, 27.

Zsohar’s lack of a citizenship surfaces as hard-hitting Conservative attack ads accuse Ignatieff of just “visting Canada” to run for prime minister after years of working abroad."

She sounds like a "Made by George Soros" product, cott.

And if Count Iggy wants to get tough on drunk drivers he should start with his own MP's.

I think that is getting pretty low, pretty desperate to find something, if that's all the extremists can come up with. On the other hand it looks to me pretty impressive accomplishments.

We don't need to build jails we just need to add on to the pmo office. Fraud, influence peddling, sounds like good ole Raheem, remember him, who made many a trip to the pmo office wasn't to just deliver big macs and fries, put two and two together.

Are you going to say with a straight face Harper doesn't know these facts about his buddies, when at the same time he ordered people at the rallies backgrounds be checked and in true dictatorial form he only allows who he wants to hear him speak. He's makeing Chretien look like a moderate dictator.

What the hell are our troops fighting for democracy over seas when we have a dictator right here? He has to go and then get an actual true conservative leader, boot the extremists out, and we'll consider voting for them again.

The West is so stupid, no one talking about our issues because we are handing the Cons the vote. Liberals know we are too closed minded and stupid to play the game so that we actually have something to say. We are telling the Liberals f off so why would they do anything here, and the Cons won't do anything here because we are so easily duped to give the vote for nothing.

Then there's the Liberal candidate who doesn't believe people should be put in jail for sexual assault.

Lets take a look at one of those poor little innocents kicked out of a Harper rally.

              Izzy Hirji.

To have worked and lived differant places in the world adds to a resume. Our Country is full of people from many parts of the world.Unless you are a first nation person we also originated elsewhere.

Speaking of extremists and not doing the appropriate background checks. Who was it again that apparently didn't know he had a white supremacist running for him? Oh yeah, never mind.

You are right someone on staff that does that stuff should have known, but what was the response? If he is a white supremist he must be an idiot too because he picked the wrong party to join. lol

Oh have I exceed my 5 question limit, because apparently in a true free democracy you only get 5 questions and 5 of those are planned in advance. Wow what an open Q and A forum that must be!

I was just thinking that pmo office must be one hell of a tough place to be, since that is where a what 5 time criminal is sent by the pm himself. Wonder if Harper punishes him by playing piano while reading the Liberal Red book. LOL

Wonder if he gets to eat prison food or lobster and steak?

We need transparency. Those who have done crime should not be protected from public scrutiny. Rehabilitation must include owning up.

The lawyers, liberal courts and left wing bleeding hearts and media, all of them, want to hide information from the public; information that impacts upon our lives. It has to start at the top.
