Do you believe it was just one train?

Is this the way they justify their railcars?

Is this a good example of incompetence?

Does anyone lose their job at the cwb for not minding the store?

Who in their right mind and all the meetings they must have, can't add the tonnes committed to a sale and ensure the grain isn't positioned properly?

          Bucket:

Don't know if this is the only shipment. The last time I know it happened was 2005 - don't know how many times it may have happened since then either.

I don't believe its incompetence. I think it has more to do with equity. I think the CWB believes that if they offered short term premiums for delivery that it would show a weakness in the CWB system. It may even be rejected by core single desk supporters. (I've heard some say it doesn't matter if the CWB gets good prices, as long as everyone gets the same!)

The CWB knew it didn't have the right quality of wheat in the "showcase" - they couldn't offer on a Japanese tender in Feb. Said they didn't have the quality. But then offered on a later tender, saying they had worked out sourcing and transportation issues.

What did that mean? Had they made the decision to ship from Thunder Bay? If so, they weren't caught short in the prairies and had to scramble to find wheat - and so shipped from TBay. They may have made the sale knowing ahead of time that they would pull out of TBay.

There are times when it might make sense - if you're caught short and shipping cross-country is the low cost option. But there's no shame in shopping in the prairies first to find what you need.

I am surprised they didn't ship it around. If it wasn't winter they could have tried the NW Passage. lol It's a little like a guy in Red Deer hauling his grain to Edmonton to store for 2 weeks and then hauling it to Calgary where he knew it was going to go in the first place. Yikes!

Look how far behind they are shipping
wheat and durum. Some guys south of
calgary have hauled next to nothing and
now the CWB is using up valuable car
space for this when they could of helped
the problem by sourcing in from on farm.
totally backwards thinking and shows how
              they think in Winnipeg. Scary.

How much movement of grain from prairie elevators to export postion was delayed because of the train used to move the TB wheat? There are farmers in our area way behind in delivery. Sounds like a double whammy.

Is Mission Terminals involved in this? Was wheat shipped to TB to help out Mission's elevation revenues? Are Ward and Adrian in bed together on this? If so, this scandal is getting even larger.

They could have sourced the grain from the elevators that have been plugged for most of the year.

This is an example of how the cwb wants to show how they are in control.

It costs farmers dearly. There is absolutely no excuse for this, on a year when 12 million acres didn't get seeded, as the elevators should be empty.

Can't blame the railways for putting the grain in the wrong location, can you?

Nope - railways not to blame here.

                          John,

Where are those CWB ships when you need them?

It is very hard to believe that 100 cars of HRS wheat suitable for Japan is not contracted and avaliable for shipping in southern Alberta!

                          ANy one know of any?

I know of CWRS wheat that 2 months ago graded #1... now changed to #2. #2 that is now Feed.

I know... not the CWB's fault!

                          Our own fault.
