    Lets Talk Canola!

Its Mid April. In roughly 4 weeks we will be in prime time canola seeding. 10Th to 18Th gives health plants seeded in warm soil. AH yes a normal spring. But the way it looks today we are not in a normal spring.
It might be hard for some to visualize but were still pretty much white. Last nights snow event didn't help either.
So will all the acreage their bragging about get seeded. Id say their high. Either from smoking something or high with their guess. Kid phoned for survey last night I told him I'm seeding SFA this spring he asked why. I said why get excited when all you see is snow and water. Survey says!!!
Here are some thoughts if it does get normal and the south doesn't seed till mid may. Hm their 10 degrees hotter than the rest how will the plants perform.
Here is my guess price will nose dive when Stats Canada issues report. It will be close to trade guesses but market will react. Come farm progress show weather will tell what got seeded or how crop is coming along.
    But what to seed.
Peas are going to be the shits. Oats they didn't pay us last year so ps on helping them this year. Barley well well we have the CWB for malt.
Durum if only we could dream of USA price. HRS or high yielding feed wheat, AH a life without the CWB.
Farming no one said it was easy and this springs decision is a tough one. Good luck.

It will be an easy decision, if it is SFA!

I will hold my prediction on seeded canola ac.
20 mil ac - needed near perfect april - that is officialy toast.
18 mill ac can still happen if weather normalizes and floods recede quickly.(30% chance)
16 mill ac if it stays cool and wet (60%)
Too many in the trade were trying to look for a hard numder two months ago but that was idiotic given saturated soils and heavy snow pack in those same ares. Soo much depended on spring weather and guess what the worst case senario is very close at hand. Yes big acres may still get in but the chances are getting smaller evey day/week.
