    Drew says...

A major winter storm system inundates the Prairies with rain and snow Thursday through Sunday afternoon. This storm will bring heavy rain and snow as it moves through and will be reminiscent of the storms of last spring. There will be nowhere for this excess moisture to go because of very high soil moisture and swollen rivers and streams throughout the Prairies. Chances for planting in some eastern Saskatchewan and Mani-toba locations at all this spring are going to decline if the storm verifies. The strong low pressure system will develop in central Alberta Thursday and will move west to east across the Prairies Thursday night through Sunday after-noon. The center of the low pressure system will be located in central Alberta Thursday afternoon, Saskatchewan Friday afternoon, and Manitoba by Saturday afternoon. Warm, moist air will be drawn in ahead of the low pressure system, while cooler air will move in behind it. This will cause rain to develop out ahead of this storm and snow to develop behind it. Precipitation will impact Alberta Thursday night through Friday night, Saskatchewan Friday morn-ing through Saturday night, and Manitoba Friday night through Sunday afternoon. Moisture totals will range from 16 to 29 mm near and north of a line from Calgary to North Battleford to Dauphin to Pinawa. Local amounts up to 37 mm will be possible in an area bounded by a line from Lethbridge to Melfort to Slave Lake to Edson. Snow accumulations will range from 7 to 13 mm with local amounts up to 20 cm. The Peace River Valley and areas south of the line from Calgary to North Battleford to Dauphin to Pinawa will receive between 8 and 24 mm of mois-ture from this storm. Snow accumulations will range from 3 to 10 cm of snow.

The fat lady will be screaming!

back in the 70s its was not unusual for us to seed after the 10th of May, but then we had smaller machines, and less land... and we also grew 60 day barley and polish canola!!

14 day trend according to The Weather Network for most of the prairies looks ideal. I'd go with that instead.

Yea I got his report early this morning and for some reason I did like I do with NDP's I tuned it out. Were so fricking wet the last thing I need is 40 mm of rain.
Tell you how my day went took track hoe and cut a half mile cut to drain a Flat lake area into a creek. This prevented a main road from washing out in three places. Neighbors house will be under water if Burm brakes, Yes its in a slough but crap what a mess. Water in our main well is 2ft from surface so that's where our water table is at. YEA!

Saved the grid in three places worth it since its a major road and only one open. But sure was fun. Just like when I was a little gaffer with a hoe after a rain.

I really enjoy reading Drew's stuff. He's usually bang on. He nailed the forecast last fall, and was the reason we got our grain corn off. Really hope he's wrong here. We should be done pumping today. We would start seeding Thursday except for the forecast. My one complaint is that he uses these little towns as reference points for his forecasts. I have to pull out a damned map every time I read what he has to say.

and learner and wxmaps saying we are going to get

Wxmaps looks like 50-125 mm for a huge junk of
                          saskatchewan.
