Every place that ran water during the winter snow melt; or the spring snow/rain episode is now again freely flowing.
And this Western Manitoba-Sask area is not alone in this seeding failure. While the world won't notice the lost Canadian seeding area; its just possible that North Dakota's similar situation will be seen as more important. Not to mention the states straight south bordering Texas; or European countries and their agricultural production problems etc. etc.
We may have dodged the end of the world this afternoon; but MY prediction is that such crop losses as this general areas durum production will be missed; along with important amounts of almost every other crop that this area has traditionally produced.
Guys like Larry Weber and Drew have it pretty well figured out; but the vast majority of those farmers who are cocky enough to think they can out think and out manage more powerful forces like Mother Nature and uncontrolled population growth and latest scientific possibilities etc. etc. are screwed.
It is the end of the world for some who haven't even noticed.

Lets think about the employees of your inland terminals/"local" elevator. With a short/next to non existant sown area do you think that the present staff will be retained; or will there be at least job sharing and reduced hours. Have the truckers mentioned to you how a reduced crop will affect their jobs.
Just how much spraying and chemical inputs have been put on this spring; and how could the distribution system ever begin to catch up with the slow progress of seeding.
With the deplorable road and highway infrastructure damage and flooding; is it even possible to recover to past standards within the next year? And just how much oilfield activity has resumed after what should have been the end of the spring roadban period? And how will those who have contracted production be fulfilling and buying their way out of those obligations?

I don't think this is a pretty situation for very many farmers. These problems just aren't noticed by our supposed leaders and those who make the decisions for the usually productive segment of society.

the world abandoned agricultural investment 30 yrs ago, favouring concrete and glass palaces in the city instead. is it payback time?

There was water to surface after the first half inch; and the next inch that continues to be added to has only added insult to injury.
As most appreciate; once completely saturated; any tenth of an inch of moisture just runs off like a substantial snow melt.
The provincial seeding progress reports and Weatherbug regional rainfall analyses reveal the extent of the problem. I'm just as interested in what is happening to North Dakota producers; and into Manitoba; since the corn crop and wheat harvest outcomes will move the markets.
There's also still those grain trade impediments that keep producers from getting the returns that any other entrepreneur takes for granted. And it seems that like the weather; there is nothing anyone can or will do about those matters.

Guys I watched the Fox Warren Weather station all day and the rain made it up to yorkton then dropped as it aimed for Regina and continued to circle that way all day. We got hit finally at 9.00. Not that much as we were on the edge. If this was last year we would have got 3 inches.
Rain does not make grain it knocks the shit out of every thing. Yes your correct all the attention to Canada's problems will not make the news. But once they confirm that ND is having Big problems and then throw in Texas and Oklahoma plus the Frost in Kansas. and European Drought. The world is going to go short of food. Hm Make a kid with Face Book a Billionaire and have Bread as a lost liter on evening out meal. Sooner or later the shit will hit the fan.
So far were getting better weather this year. FoamLake is even going to get a crop in the ground. HA. But If we get a Inch or more in the next two weeks we will be pouched.
Man I feel for you guys its the shits even a year or two after the rain problems.

20 mm yesterday, should be a go by wed. Probably 10 to 30 % done here. Water coming up as the land roller passes , before this last rain. Gonna be a late harvest.

Watched radar Friday and Yesterday. We were also on the edge except always on the rain side. Water running again. Lots of acres not seeded.We are not done though. Will get back in field in a week.Not good for those that do not have much done but anyone that is 50% or more should not be a wreck. Guess it was our turn.

Neighbours seeded a full section of emf into
canola by air about 3 weeks ago. Interested to
see the outcome. If this rain germinates it, there
should be lots of subsoil moisture. The field was
a sponge.
