    Germ Question

Barley seed germ test show result is about 85 percent, would be ok to seeding with that germ percent, and what effect will be if it goes lower than that?

    #2
seed heavier at exactly 1.5 inches, watch your ground speed for accurate seed placement, avoid using an auger use a belt conveyor to minimize cracking. Then, look at the calender, look at the sky. Ignore all of the above, set your machine to plant 15% heavier and just stick it in the ground where there is enough moisture to germinate. Remeber, pioneers would maually spread the seed from a sack, plow the field and hope for a crop.

85% germ seed grain can be legally sold in the uk, without declaration.

What's wrong with 85 seed at over 2 and don't
        worry.

I am aware about that heavy seed per acre but what about for example, barley 2009 crop year germ is healthy and 98 percent and 2010 crop year and germ is at 85 percent. These 98 percent barley usually give average yield 100 bushel and what about 85 percent germ, will they give same yield or lower yield, I mean do DNA will change on 85 percent barley from normal healthy barley. I do recall some years ago been doing that heavy seed bushel per acre due to lower germ but end up lighter yield also weight. Just thought.

" I mean do DNA will change on 85 percent barley from normal healthy barley"

Frost kills the germination... and may at times lower the vigour... frost does not change the DNA of a plant. We use frost to break domancy in seed...

So.... vigour is really what you are questioning... ususally costs $30-40 to test. Every seed testing lab I know of does vigour testing... if no roundup applied... very accurate tests if done late winter.

The higher the Germ/Vigour the better. Ain't gon get it this year, just seed heavier. 1.5 inches deep!!!!!!!! Skim it in halfa inch with the weather and ground conditions yous getting. Ain't gon grow otherwise. Gon be guys reseeding cereals in the area cause of rotten seed from seeding to deep. Skim the Shit in, it'll grow. Heck it'll grow just blowing it on the top and using the packers to pack er' in with these conditions. You want that seed outta the ground within 3 days..........
