    A question of electricity costs?

Alberta intends to build some massive new power transmission lines. Alberta ratepayers will pay the full price ($16 Billion) of these lines, even though the two line companies will be the sole owners of these lines.
The IPCC (industrial users) have said the increased cost of power in Alberta will drive businesses out of the province, with food processors and packing plants being the most vulnerable.
Many are citing a tripling of prices for electricity, although no one can really know until the final bills are in as the construction is a cost/plus deal!
I wonder how much more this deal might add to a farmers costs? Home/shop/aeration etc. as well as things like higher elevation charges, higher trucking costs if processors leave, etc.?
Will higher electricity costs make Alberta unattractive for any new value added industries like ethanol and bio deisel, milling, brewing, etc.? With the new CWB decisions coming...will Alberta be left out of some of the real advantages that might be possible?
What happens if the Packing industry collapses due to uncompetitive power costs....do feedlots scale back or close...does the remaining hog industry pack it in?
If that scenario takes place where do we sell poorer grains that have been damaged by drought or frost?

I would put it at less than a 50 percent chance that the power line goes ahead as planned.

Now the fiasco exposed... the gov will be forced to change.

I hope you're right TOM4. Morton, Mar, Redford, Ordman and now Horner have all said we need to "revisit" the powerlines after Wikileaks blew the lid off! I wonder if anything would have happened if the Wikileaks cable hadn't come out?
Morton, Redford, and Horner all sat in the cabinet and supposedly knew the score? Two weeks ago MLA Rob Anderson for Airdrie/Chestomere introduced a private members bill calling for the repeal of Bill 50...none of the three supported him! Pretty incredible to now say you are against it? All three have lost whatever credibility they might have once had...they should drop out of the leadership race and hang their heads in shame.

Scandalous for sure. Odds are that the people will go into the booth and vote the same gang of thieves back in. Can't give the car a wax job and expect it to run better. Time for a major change.
