    An Electric tractor?

This may be kind of a stupid question but I wonder if sometime in the future it might be possible (or maybe necessary) to build an electric field tractor?
It seems the "powers that be" have decided, one way or the other, that climate change is real and the problem is the use of fossil fuels by humans! One way or the other....us peons will have to deal with it!
They build hybrid cars now and are making a lot of advances on fully electrical vehicles......can you ever see the day when a commercial electric (or hybrid) large field tractor could make sense?

No I don't and here is why. Field tractors require enormous amounts of continuous power. They generally don't have wide swings in energy demands that hybrid systems can take advantage of. And diesel is one of the most energy dense forms of fuel (Kw/g). So replacing it with something else like batteries or ammonia fuel would add an enormous weight penalty, which further reduces efficiency.

Internal combustion diesel is the best we will have for field equipment, for a long time to come.

I don't think the battery technology is anywhere
near ready and you would have to see huge
          advances.

Do to geo-political and supply/cost structure oil
and diesel are on the way out{not totally},which
leaves only one solution to the energy crisis.

          Natural gas

In 10 years everyone will be driving natural gas
          vehicles.

Perennial crops, nitrogen fixing so not much tractor required. Change how people get nourishment and you don't need farms at all.

heavy batteries are not a problem in a tractor. you could recharge as you refill seeder.
