Feeding 9 bln people by 2050

An interesting study for a rainy day.

Nine billion in less than 40 years. Nice ring to that nice round number. Not a word about how that those born will have any more understanding of what "sustainable" has to mean. What a plan. Humans will continue to go and go like the Energizer bunny. It isn't under control and it surely won't last forever. And absolutely no one; including a supposed higher power; is apart of any plan of any kind.

That math seems off but no time to figure it out.

This is one of the most important video series ever put on youtube.

Actually in video 2 he says current population growth
is 1.3% or a doubling rate every 53 years.

Dear Begood what you posted is considered an "absolute negative statement"-it's impossible to prove.Maybe if you want to have a debate around the existence of God you should consider visiting a website more suited to that discussion.
            Try these
            www.rzim.org or www.carm.org

Nah. You need a wakeup call too. Remember everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that isn't fulfilled by you condoning what you might agree with; but feigning being insulted when someone disagrees.

I don't think there will be 9 bln people
by 2050. In fact population growth
                rates are already slowing considerably.
A far bigger real problem will be the
lack of young people in the western
                world. Population is already declining
in Japan and Russia leading to permanent
                economic recession in those countries.
Even if there was 9 bln people the earth
                could easily feed them with
                underutilized resources already in
place. When the US goes bankrupt there
will suddenly be a lot of corn used to
make ethanol looking for another use.

I just spent the last hour watching the youtube videos referred to by "cotton". I was equally impressed by the absolute clarity of the speaker; and his understanding of the gravity of the problem.

There are 8 videos in the series. If you don't understand what his point is ; on every last comment and point that he is making; then you need further instruction in arithmetic; logic and reasoning; and removing the blinders of blind faith.

The question is "What percentage of Agriville readers would subject themselves to one of the best summaries in recognizing that population growth is the immediate cause of all our resource and environmental crises"

The speaker on the videos refers to H.L.Menchen who said he believed it is the nature of the human species to reject what is true but unpleasant, and to embrace what is obviously false but comforting.

In summary; if you want to become aware of compelling logic, that should win any debate, then please watch the youtube videos. You won't ever see a better presentation by any university professor. And maybe we will all start to understand where we are headed and what the inevitable end of a modest growth is; let alone rates of 4 to 8%.
The answer is that it isn't sustainable. And that's what the Dupont analysis fails miserably to recognize. Their solution is utter nonsense; and may only postpone the inevitable solutions which will be imposed to bring back equilibrium of resources and the number of organisms and humans competing for those finite supplies.
As pointed out in the video; one of the casualties is and will be democracy, and the deception of making it seem that we have hundreds or thousands of years before the big crisis comes upon us; all assuming the false assumption of zero growth (otherwise known as "at present rates". In the slightly longer term, there surely will be negative growth to counterbalance unsustainable excesses.
                  Thanks for the link cotton

I fully understand that the vast majority of people buy lottery tickets based on their expectation of winning fortunes on risking much smaller amounts.
Similarly, the advice of fortune tellers, clarivoiants and diviners and witchers is relied upon by seemingly sensible persons.
As for faith, it may well be an important calming influence for certain individuals, but it crosses the line to assume everyone must be converted. Galileo said something to the effect that humans were endowed with sense, reason and intellect and he didn't feel obliged with foregoing their use.
Apparently tolerance isn't found to a greater extent among "religious" persons. There is the possibility that tolerance is an important attribute that should be more a part of every person's life.

If we are all basically organisms fighting for resources to survive how does one of us develop a standard that allows him to say to another "you have crossed a line".Who's line? What authority can you appeal to?If were all just chemical reactions brought here by accident can't I just remove you by incident.
Do you get the irony of an athiest worrying about over population?

It would be interesting to know how many well-fed progeny bear the genes of Thomas Robert Malthus. Undoubtedly, far more than he predicted.

When you understand arithmetic; doubling rates; effect of rate of growth; logarithms; logic; statistics then you will know what my points are.

But there are so few humans that can comprehend those facts. So you wildly attack those ideas. Well guess what. One might as well be blunt with such people. Its futile to try to "convert" you;; but its important to point out that you are either stupid or ignorant or misinformed or naive or all those things or more. You do a disservice to the human race and should be held accountable.
