And can we feed 18 billion; which could happen less than 2 generations later. And where will those raw materials and inputs come from.

begood,
WOW... the UN has nothing better to do... but fearmongering...
Have you folks been taking lessons from the CWB?
pOPULATION was 'supposed' to top out at 9b in 2050.
nOW IT APPEARS possible to manage this in a comforable rational market based solution... the UN must up the number to 15.8 billion people so the likes of begood can confiscate our food to feed the hungry in the year 2100!!!
WOW... these people really need better job discriptions... just like the folks in Winnipeg!!!

The answer is-well over 10,000 die everyday.
Not exactly a world of plenty,no matter what spin
you throw.
There are many valid logical arguments that we can
not feed 9 billion let alone 6 billion.
There are laws in the universe, think gravity, where
impossible means impossible.

It may be important to point out that birds fly too, and have been doing so for quite some time. It isn't that airplanes and birds are defying the laws of gravity, it is that they have devised ways to create forces that are sufficient to overcome the effect of gravity for relatively short periods of time.
If you are serious, and no doubt you are, then it would be possible to have someone explain this to any normal thinking person.

Burnt,
Obviously we lost the argument. Admit it... Good is Evil... Up is down... both of us and our families died in the great 1987 famine.
That was a terrible year... over a billion people died... they all walked into the ocean like lemmings... cause the end of the world... was here!!!
I appologise Begood... I forgot I was dead for a few days... I will tell my ghost to stop bothering you!

Charlie,
Good topic!
"Ensuring that enough healthy, nutritious food is available for people everywhere is a key focus for DuPont. The company invests 60 percent of its $1.7 billion annual R&D dollars to ensuring that the world’s population has enough food. From working with farmers and growers around the world to help them increase crop yields, to developing a wide range of packaging materials that enable food to be transported without spoilage, and developing more nutritious food options and ensuring food safety, DuPont is working every day to get food to people who need it.
DuPont (www.dupont.com) is a science-based products and services company. Founded in 1802, DuPont puts science to work by creating sustainable solutions essential to a better, safer, healthier life for people everywhere. Operating in more than 90 countries, DuPont offers a wide range of innovative products and services for markets including agriculture and food; building and construction; communications; and transportation."
No question.... innovative human resourses to bring the best of human nature out... can solve this opportunity!
This can be fun... very rewarding... and a positive outcome is truly possible!
God Bless Canada!!!

Victorian souls like NFUer, burnt, and Tom will never get it because their fairy tale based faith blinds them in the same manner that CWB supporters are such trusting folks. Numbers mean nothing to either. Math is out the window whether its dollars lost, or humans that can be sustained by the planet.
Yes, Canada is blessed.

Y'know, checking, I would really like to give you credit for being smarter than what you appear to be, based on your responses in this thread.
Go back other my replies here and you will not find ONE that gives you any basis to write me off as someone who subscribes to "blind faith".
YOU are the one who repeatedly drags religion into the discussion - what is your gripe really about?
I have no idea what it is that turns you into an abusive pessimist, but you really should get help for it. By the way, are you still beating your wife? ;~)
If you want to debate religion, I'm sure there must be lots of websites where you will find like-minded dumbasses who will entertain you.

One thing that is also over looked is economic cost.
Its a very,very complex issue.
Simply put if three men are on an island and one
gets fish, one gets coconuts and one gets bannas
who has time to build the shelter and maintain the
fire?
We know there is oil in the arctic and tarsands, but
it is expensive.
I wish my fields where tile drained,so i could
produce more, but it is a cost that has to be paid.
There are limits and restrictions to what humanity
can accomplish.
Im not an atheist,and i don't no who i'll see when i
make the trip but i doubt he'll kick me out.
