    Nervous about changes in Alberta

For those who don't know, the Alberta government has been bringing in several "land bills" that will fundamentally change the relationship between government and landowners? The "land bills" all contain one scary provision.... "rule of law" will no longer exist! Instead it will be replaced by "rule by cabinet" with no need to inform or consult landowners, no right to compensation for expropriation, and no recourse to the courts!
"Rule of law" is essential to a parlimentary democracy because it puts limits on how a government can treat it's citizens. Without rule of law a government can do whatever it wants...and in fact it returns us to a time when a king or emperor could rule however he pleased! It takes us back to a Pre-Magna Carta state where King John ruled by his own whims!
It opens up a whole new level for possible corruption as the politicians can be bought.....to do whatever the "buyer" might desire!
This is where Alberta is headed today. If the Alberta government can pull it off look for other provincial governments to follow!

Trust the Conservatives, they know what
is best fer Albertie! Leadership race
is bring us a new premier soon. Oil is
$95.00 a barrel. THAT IS ALL THAT IS
IMPORTANT. Rural vote no longer means
anything. They kin do what they want,
unless some poor little/guy or gal takes
it all the way to the Supreme Court,
Butt could they afford to do it?
Probably not, thats what Albertie is
counting on, and by that time the land
use issues (powerlines) will already be
built and trasmitting. To bad so sad,
yous can't tear them down now, to
late... After all Albertie is open fer
business. Our motto is shoot, shovel
    and shutup........

Most of us as Canadian landowners know little or nothing about "Crown Land Patents".

I barely know enough about it the try to explain it. What the Patent does is guarantee the landowner the right and freedom to use and protect his/her land against all unlawful intrusion. ALL.

For more information about this and what a growing number of Ontario landowners are doing, you can look at the website of the Ontario Landowners Association -

      http://www.ontariolandowners.ca/

Someone who is very knowledgeable and more than capable of speaking to the issue is a woman by the name of Elizabeth Marshal from Eastern Ontario, secratary of the OLA..

She is an absolute pitbull on the issue and has established a reputation as an invaluable resource for lawyers and a fearless advocate for landowner rights.

She eats about ten bureaucrats for breakfast and washes then down with a few government lawyers.

Sounds like Albertans are starting to find out what has been going on in Saskatchewan since Crown Corps came into being. All for the public good you know...

          burnt:
I am in contact with Liz Marshall weekly, also Tom Black and Debbie Mahill.
We are trying to set up some kind of national coalition of landowner groups to push for property rights to be enshrined within the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. While it seems almost impossible right now under the amending formula Liz has another avenue (through the patents) that might very well succeed!
I know exactly what you are saying about Liz......one very smart lady on a mission! I am sure she thinks about two levels higher than most people!
