If the board is able to create an environment that they can continue to pay the ridiculous handling charges, storage charges and out of line elevation charges, then the answer is yes. Yes the line companies will handles the grain for a new CWB. WE have to remember that currently line cos have the ability to pick weather they focus on board grains or off board grains. This will not change with the a voluntary board in place. They will still make the decision wether to handle board on non board based on their best return on investment. People just do not get the fact that what the board pays to the line cos for handle is high. THe other reality is that the line cos may get better thru put, MT per month when they do not have a clumbsy board in place. THis may mean they chose lower revenues per MT and trade the grain for their own account because they get better total revenue and charge LESS per MT.

Whatever the result is, we will have a more efficent market based supply chain that will put more money in the growers pocket.

One major contradiction that Mr. Oberg continues to make is that he continually spouts that the CWB is owned by farmers and run by farmers yet then readily admits that the CWB only exists because of government legislation. It seems quite clear who is in control.

If it wasn't for government intervention grandpa would not had a farm to pass on son and son to grandson. For some reason intergenerational equity and experience seems to help a young fellow get ahead.

Prairie Fire your Grandpa did not have a computor, had one delivery location and didn't know squat about world supply and demand. Besides that he grew wheat, wheat and then again wheat.
Summerfallow to break disease and controle weeds and conserve moisture cause he plowed 6 inches deep to burry weed seeds. Not sure what area your from but possibly could not see day light from the blowing dust at times.
Possibly them 10 foot gullies in your fields your grandpa caused them also but hey you got your farm today. Cannot buck the old guys though that is what they did to survive the best they knew how.

Then again I have a grandpa that had to pay for his farm twice cause the origional guy that sold it to him did not actually own it. Sounds to me we have some Manitoba gov/t monies pouring into agriville chat now. So go hard and hammer this one out, some of us would like to get on with a new crop year.

Anyways spitfire sorry if your grandfather is not alive today, mine have also passed away and yet be with me in memory forever.
As far as younger generation getting started not sure about that one, we have a large corp bought up land in our area and in 3 months just flipped it for a 10 percent profit to another unknown corp. I suppose the local renter will know the new owner because of rent deal. Funny cause no local would rent it for half of what he is paying but it just got flipped.
Now if the old locals And I am one of them at 46 yrs old that don't want to compete with this new investment so what? My rant is cwb is not going to keep the smaller farmers in business.

Hopper, you are only 46 and you don't want to compete with the new crowd paying stupid rent and land prices?

What the hell is wrong with you?

Just wondering, having the same thoughts myself. Other guys your age are leaving my area. Its nuts.

Oh, you remember the last decade?

So do I. And none of the recent newcomers do.

I will sit back and wait.

Bucket i have no intention of leaving my operation and I bought land instead of selling or renting in the last 10 years, seemed good at the time although extended at the time. Just an opinion, when land prices are too high to purchase for 20 years then there is an opportunity coming. Daddies money cannot go on forever.

Bto claims he is out to buy everything and outdo the Huts, perhaps he is and to what extent? Will we run himself into the ground only to be uncompetitive? Look at mining and railway jobs these days at well over a hundred grand per year salaries. Are we farmers holding our ground???

-To Notaredneck and Prairiefire: I believe that the Depapes, Webers, Johnstons and all other brokers are going to be a lot wealthier because all of us non-CWB people (free enterprisers) are going to become financially better off than before. To all you socialists and CWB people, I feel sorry that you cannnot comprehend what I am saying but you can live in your little world with the likes of Calvert, Oberg, and Layton. I really can't figure out how your little brains work!
