Same old same old ,canola and wheat, and barley. How about rice and pineapples, they like water? My we have a brilliant bunch in Ottawa! Too many Harper bred bureaucrats with nothing to do. Their only goal in life is too cut ag spending. I don't have a problem with spending cuts if they can show me how they can get a higher price for products we grow or increase our margins.

From the article mentioned above:
<i>"Without the CWB, producer cars will become a thing of the past, like wooden crib elevators."</i>
Why does the CWB have to be the ones administering producer cars, and why do they need the single desk to allocate them anyway?
More fearmongering.

Hey Ranger, the CWB does not administer the Producer cars ,the CGC does .The CWB is the only large grain marketing entity that encourages producers to load their own grain into producer cars. I should know I have been loading cars for number of years. Futhermore the grain companies do not want us to load producer cars that is why they offer trucking incentives( up to $15.00 per tonne! ) . Ever wonder where that money comes from for this ? Grain sales?,nope, efficiencies? nope. Ever heard of the freight revenue cap ? It seems that when the cap is reached all the railways have to do is send some $ to the grain cos for loading 100 car spots ,the cap goes down and they can collect some more $ from you and me. By the way when I load producer cars I do not get the trucking incentive but you do . Therefore the overcharging of my freight cost is financing your trucking ....quite cute !
So all in all the overcharging of freight is actually used to manupilate the trucking incentive and is all in all the farmers own $.

No surprise there really, they get their pound of
flesh regardless of where you ship your grain.

I'll grant you that they stay in business by
charging you elevation on grain you deliver to
them, but don't you think the trucking incentive
might be an example of passing on the incentive
money paid for 100 unit train loads?
I'm not sure why you would say that money is
from the overcharging of your freight? Why
should your freight be the same as mine when
the train has to drop your 2 cars in Podunk,
Saskatchewan and then do it 50 more times over
the next 1000 miles, versus stopping once to pick
up a unit train?
Do you really think there aren't significant
efficiencies that can and should be shared with
the farmers who help fill the train? If not, maybe
you could do some trucking for me some time. I'll
pay you the same rate I pay my regular trucker,
but you can have the load that comes out of 50
separate bins, 30 bushels in each. Bring your
shovel.
