As a seed grower; Tom keeps proving he is capable of ignoring a valid point.
Just because Tom may be far enough from the US border; doesn't mean some other seed grower isn't close enough for some US farmer to see an opportunity to buy clean Canadian seed with no intention other than to sell it through a US elevator and make a profit on that transaction. I happen to know of an instance where that happened a couple of years ago.
And just for Tom; I'll repeat that it doesn't need to be a fancy newest variety that might be in vogue in the USA. If a US farmer can buy it from a Canadian seed grower; and after expenses sell it to the elevator system; then even Tom should see the opportunity.
I KNOW CATTLEMEN THAT SUPPORT THE CWB BECAUSE THEY FEEL THEY GET CHEAPER FEED GRAINS. AND I KNOW SEED GROWERS WHO CAN'T SEE THEIR CONFLICT OF INTEREST AS ABOVE; AND I KNOW ORGANIC PRODUCERS WHO FEAR THAT THEIR SPECIAL STATUS MAY BE LOST IF BORDERS WERE SLAMMED SHUT BECAUSE EVERYONE WERE GIVEN THEIR SPECIAL ENTITLEMENT. AND AT TIMES ALL THESE PEOPLE'S THINKING MAKES ME SICK. AND NONE OF THOSE PERSONS ARE LOOKING FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT THEY MISTAKENLY FEEL IS BEST FOR THEIR SELF INTEREST.

The time and money Tom has dedicated for years to try to get marketing freedom for all prairie farmers has not been in his self-interest.

Those who continue to accept and profit from special consideration from the CWB have tainted credability in my eyes. You may see it differently. To me its a matter of principles.

          Begood,

After levies and royalties... cleaning and inspections (often running $2.50-3/bu)... trucking to the US destination...selling pedigreed seed to dump down the pit... after being required to swear it is to used for planting purposes... is very different situation than 20 or 50 years ago when seed moved freely across the US border with public varieties that had no royalties and no reporting.

Many new seed varieties can't even be exported into the US unless the US rights holder grants permission. Not a 'dump down the pit' sale opportunity when multiple participants must approve the seed movement.

That our Radiant winter wheat stock seed went south... surprised us almost as much as it did the CWB!!!

Other than enjoying working with great people who also help fight for our freedom... this has not been an operation that paid much returns...

It is more about the finding out about lost returns and where they occur... and the development of marketing connections and intelegence that will be important going forward into a post 'single desk' environment.

You're special, so special, and then there are the flowery laced up versions of the tune that apply to too many in the designated area of western Canada. This stutus for the specials is the main reason for my detesting the CWB very existance.

Level the farming fields boys, because all I'm seeing is a whole lot of ruts. )And if it paid at all, then you're special.) That the Board, board supporters, and the specials don't see the inequality, they also won't have any problems with the swearing requirements.

I'm sure it isn't the Canadian seed grower that swears the "registered seed" will be used in the US for seed use only. What control could a Canadian have over that.
And 20 or 50 years ago there were mercury seed treatments applied to those seed exports. I'll bet ir isn't denatured in this day and age. And back then if it wasn't a red enough color then it got sent back for an additional dose before clearing customs.
And just because your Radiant wheat doesn't pencil out for a profit; doesn't mean that Selkirk or Berry or whatever wouldn't be profitable to all parties involved.
A more honorable person might well be able to see these points more clearly. And just how does anyone know that other seed growers haven't profited much more handsomely. And I don't buy your insinuation that there was not hardly anything in it for you to have dabbled in this hypocrisy.
And just what advantage to the ordinary Canadian farmer is there to be supplying the US with seedstock that will be used to compete against our disadvantaged farming businesses?
I call bullshit about this CWB special consideration for registered seed growers. Remember your conflict of interest when you reply.
