    Crops from Edmonton to Regina

We drove to Edmonton via Lloydminster and
back via Rosetown-Moose Jaw this week. Great
crops around N. Batteford. Canola looks thin in
most areas. Lentils west of Dinsmore are very
short and just starting to bloom. Nice lentils
    around Moose Jaw.

Large area - prob 40 miles wide affected by
vicious hail storm on wed night with 3 to 7 inches
of rain from Delisle south. Deep ravines cut in
    fields and much hail damage.

All in all, it appears that Canola is not great,
lentils pick up as you head east of Rosetown,
though we did not drive south and west to see,
could be better there. Wheat at many stages.
Some just at early spray stage. Not much headed
out. Only saw 2 fields of flax.

    Please give us your input.

    I would

Is anyone else concerned we farmers, by not growing flax, are going to kill the crop? Sheesh there can't be more than 500 acres in. It is nowhere.

I'm surprised that the crop is this late in other areas too. Long way to go for it. Good, (in an ironic kind of way) to hear about thin canola. it's not just me, and markets should compensate hopefully!!!

Drove from edmonton to winnipeg last weekend. Crops from lloyd to regina i thought looked pretty good. Dundurn is the best in western canada. canola 4 feet tall and absolutely beautiful. East of Regina it gets bad with many fields foxtails only. Some ok fields. Souris or westerm MB is dismal. Red river valley is as always nice but sure are a lot of fields late. Probably will be an average crop again.

With the previous comments in mind and with what I have read on agtalk, I am curious as to where this crop is going to come from.

An average crop won't meet demand.

I think your assessment around Edmonton and especially to the east is right on. Some ok crops that are startign to fill in now but are thin. Lots of small canola on the bottom of the canopy that will be blooming later and could mean lots of greens. Canola Crops to the west of Edmonton look better - better germination. Still not the crop there was out here last year. If mine goes 30 Ill be happy.
The Peace Country is getting super wet from what I hear from friends up there. Some guys didnt even get to spray their canola around Falher.
The wheat crops however around Edmonton look really good. they have stooled out and are taking advantage of the moisture. The barley has wet feet in the lower sopts but there are some decent crops around as well. Soem nice pea crops too. Just late - thats all.
The canola crop will be the problem over here i think

Wadena to Yorkton most crops look great between the water lying in low areas. Some late, most canola thick and full bloom.
A lot of dry weather needed before harvest, or 2010 harvest hell will be repeated.
Roads are still soft in spots!
