Corn Going Up...What about feed barley?

Lots of reports of corn selling right now between $7-$8/bu., with some traders speculating it could go as high as $12!
In relative feed value comparisons what should feed barley be worth? Would it pay to leave it in the bin for awhile?

Wouldn't that make feed wheat worth more than milling wheat? (From the cwb that is)

Depending on bushel weight/plumpness, feed barley should be worth about 10 % less than corn based on energy. Value protein (barley 12 % is versus corn 8 % and this changes slightly.

Backed off west coast export prices today would be $4.50/bu plus Alberta elevator if you had direct access/no single desk.

Not sure how the CWB did recent business but make sure all CWB programs pay you close to the above if cash or are early payment values (will pay a top up payment based on sales over a specific period).

Feed barley is one crop I wouldn't sell off the combine. Should be better prices during the winter. Weather and lots of feed wheat are your risk.

Landed Alberta corn prices today would be well over $330/tonne. Doesn't
work. Lots of hay. More backgrounding (maybe to weird/heavier weights).
More shrinkage in livestock numbers both sides of the border - particularly if
the meat demand side faulters. Does $8/bu corn fit with $80/barrel oil?
Impact economic troubles on fuel demand?

Comment still stands. Domestic barley is cheap relative to the rest of the world
including right across the border in the US.

malting barley here in uk £180/ton,is that $270? will go higher.buyers desperate, monsoon continueing.

Just curious as to whether the are any guaranteed price contracts being offered. Know one boat and maybe 2 of feed barley have been sold.

Not sure how the barley going into them has been sourced.

From the trade with programs offered farmers (from open market stocks)?

Inventory from 2010/11? Guaranteed price contracts offered by specific grain companies?

How I am going to miss the: incoherent, intangible, unbelievable, "benefits" of the CWB 'single buying desk'

To actually think... at this time next year... 'designated area' grain growers will be able to search out and sell wheat and barley to anyone anywhere... would have been pure 'talking eskimo' only a few short months ago!

This brings a tear to my eye... and is truly the end of a sad chapter of intimidation, fear, and deception.

To think... how long we put up with this nonsense... is truly a tribute to the patience of western Canadian grain growers!

Sold July /'11 feed barley @ $225.05 fob. Waiting to see how bad Mb. needs the other half. $5.00 my number for 50lb range.

Tom any chance they could open up feed barley like now? Cwb does not really do much pooling of barley anyways. Guess were lucky local barley is competitive with export so we don't take yet another screwing on that commodity for one more year. Thanks Tom for all your work over the years.
