East of Calgary, a little south of the one.
We got some big crops around here this year. Still green though. Some of the big boys have some very big crops out there.
20 acres an hour is a pipe dream on this farm.

Explain what you mean by slotted grate first, do you mean large wire space concave? I know one year went from peas to canola and left all 3 of the wide space concaves in because just worked. And the wet year that we harvested 18 percent moisture with snow in swath the wide space concaves did the job when the narrow ones would plug up and plug up the rest of the machine.

We used to have an old 1480 so that is interesting. Are you saying you are running 3 concaves, one slotted grate, and then 2 small wire concaves?. I can't say I understand why you would need 2 more concaves in the grate area? Shouldn't all canola be separated by that point?
(Maybe the kids will need to understand for next year when we go get a big red speed demon instead of these old green slow pokes!)

Silver,
The problem with conventionals are they work backwards.
In a rotary... filling them up makes them work better... not throw more over.
We had a T670 2 years ago... against a 9860STS. At least 5 times the loss on that Conventional vs. the STS.
Seed growers must NOT dump that grain on the ground... to volunteer....it haunts us for years after.
PLUS the amount of crack loss is often 3-4 percent higher in a conventional than a well set Rotary. ESPECIALLY when it is dry. Much of it you can't even find... cuze it is ground up so fine! Just more dust out the back!!!

We use a slotted grate in the first position for a concave. Then in the next two positions we use small wire concaves. This is with a small tube rotor on a 8120 combine. Like I said, tons of capacity since most of the canola falls out on the front of the grain pan
By the way, glad you are getting a decent yield given your spring conditions Klaus.

Silberback, have you looked at any after market upgrades such as Precision Farm Parts? We did our rotor in our 1480 to Mike's rotor and made a world of difference. Have you seen the article in Aug 11 Western Producer.

I'm amazed how any of those axial flows were even sold in the '80's. But then I guess maybe the '80's were a lot drier.
Gregpet, it sounds like your setup is the opposite to ours. In our 1480 we have the narrow wire concave first and then the grates. Maybe that's the reason why we get almost as much pods in the tank as canola seed. Not to mention the narrow wire concave is packed full of peas.

Straight cutting canola will increase your capacity by 20 percent. We dont have big yields this year but the spots that hit close to 40 bpa will go through at 6.5 to 7 mph. 40 ft header.
Combine runs smooth. no crashin and banging like you can get with swaths.
