Barley County AB Barely Commission Sept 2011

    What an enlightening document this
edition was. They the Alberta Barely
Commission, have it ALL WRONG. Each and
every prediction was WRONG. What a
    truly great Comedian addition to
everyday life of Albertans. 4 pages a
    Conservative campaign bull. Along wit
    listing accomplishments fer the past
century or two. None of witch led ta
    anything, except stealin prducers
checkoff money cousin they grow barely.
What a truly crap politico machine. The
    mighty Alberta Barely Commission,
    currently a headless organization,
workin hard each and ever day fer the
Albertie P.C. party collectin funds ta
be used fer the bennefit of all
    albertie.

The mandatory deductions should never have been allowed. It was all a result of POLITICS that the ABC was set up in the first place.

Millions of dollars wasted fighting the CWB over the years. I applied for and got every penny of what they deducted from my barley sales.

OK, let me get this straight.
You guys think it's Hunky Dory to freeload off of
other barley growers by asking for your voluntary
checkoff back, but to make it a jail sentence to
sell to anybody except the mandatory single desk
CWB is a paragon of virtue.

I think a karma is about to run over your dogma.

Who said anything about a "voluntary" deduction" from barley sales?...it was always mandatory.

If ALL of the funds had been used for research, education and promotion, I for one would have been in favour of the deduction. IT WAS NOT.

So did you leave the percentage of funds with ABC that were used for research promotion education?

              wd9: Like I said..."if they had used
ALL OF THE FUNDS for research, education and promotion", I would have agreed to leave the check-off as being legitimate. As soon as I saw that they were DIVERTING the check=off funds for political purposes (which I didn't approve of), I determined that they would get no more of MY money.

So you'd be OK with me selling my wheat and
barley to anyone I please? Because I don't
agree with the CWB spending my money out of
the pools on political causes I disagree with.

Wilagro, so if they don't do exactly what you want to the very last penny you take your money back? Is there a line? Like 80% 50% 100%?

Oh the irony!!! About almost 20 years ago, the
Western Barley Growers made a very political
presentation to the Senate Ag Committee in Calgary
regarding the CWB monopoly. Sen Eugene Whelan
asked a very straight forward question. How many
members do you represent across the Prairies? They
responded "a little over a hundred". They were
dissed right then and there. Presto, the ABC was
formed with their wonky refundable check-off. Oh
yes, they spent years and millions of dollars on
"vexatious and frivolous" court challenges. And in
between, they threw out a few hundred grand here
and there on research. Most of the money was
spent on wining and dining and trips all over the
                      place.
Now the irony. The only effective check-off funds
ABC ever collected were from sales of Board grains
                      - feed and malt. I never discovered one single off
Board buyer, be it a grain company, feedlot or farm
to farm who collected the check-off. If it weren't for
the CWB collecting the check-off, could they ever
have gone to court? It'll be interesting to see if they
survive after August 2012, assuming this drama
unfolds as it is being talked about.

Just curious what court challenges the ABC has participated in? I can
only think of one and that was a long time ago (charter of rights
                        challenge).

How many barley dollars have been transferred to the CWB
contingency fund to prop up the producer payment options losses
over the past 5 years? In a world where 49 % of western Canadian
permit book holders who received the survey in August voted for an
open market, how many dollars will be transfered from the barley
pricing pools/profits taken from cash trading to pay for the current
                        publicity war?
