That guy does not go into anything unless there are mega public tax dollars going into it, then he buys from us cheap and sells mega times for cleaning and putting a package on it, then gets all these tributes as to how brilliant of a manager. You can bet this will not loose or go broke because any losses will be picked up by Harper, sorry, actually all of us. Could you imagine if it went broke, what would Stevie's image be then.

Yes get rid of Cwb, but this plant is mainly good for the local jobs, will mean very little for us except maybe a public but hidden bill paid by us, to make it look profitable.

@2010 What a chicken shit yellow comment.

      A. Great news public announcement is made
about what we hope is the first of many value
added processing jobs, and what concerns us
as farmers another avenue for our production.

Both Al katib and Harper, specifically
addressed the public dollars comment and I
also referred to it when rockpile asked.

If you've got a hate on for Harper. Ok but
try not to slander someone who has risked
their own money to make money.

If you want to say that he has taken
advantage of some processors who have
stumbled, guilty. But give the guy some
credit for investing where others have
      failed.

Have not we all bought out a neighbour who
was going through hard times or just wanted
      out?

To those of you who think that they won't
succeed because of the high costs of
operating in Canada. You may be right but I
trust they know more about the business than
      you do

Morning Tom: My comment to Cotton was asking why he wouldn't touch a value added Canadian company with a ten foot pole. I believe they all stand a chance of success but agree that there are hurdles to clear to be competitive. I never brought the CWB's single desk into the comment and think it is irrelevent to my question to Cotton.
Sour g****s don't make good wine(whine either). Happy Thanks Giving to all!!

I hope i am wrong and am missing something.

I'm all for expansion and development.

But global integration is now moving at warp speed.

Cotton: wouldn't the pasta plant be an extension of what already exists in the pulse processing and marketing business of AGT? The two product lines may not share the exact same markets but..... . Domestic labour and distance to markets could be an issue. I don't think land is a problem or the supply of the raw product to produce the pasta. I hope it happens and they are successful.

I've stated on here many times i didn't like canadas
position in the manufacturing sector and that the
specialty processing market was in trouble.

              I see "value-add" as manufacturing,maybe its
              wrong to think this way.

What is happening is someone is taking a raw
product, putting some labour into it and firing that
product into the global market place.

We can grow durum at a completive advantage over
our competition but turning it into something else
              is a WHOLE new ballgame.

The only competitive advantages we have, in my
mind,is reduced shipping costs of raw
product(which needs to be subtracted from
shipping costs of manufactured product, which may
infact be higher within the shipping paradigm
world,i don't know maybe Charlie or someone does)
and our ultra low corporate tax rate)

Our currency and labour rates are what will kill us.

in my opinion not investment advice due your own
              due diligence

Well GUSTO wow grew some balls today? What is the difference getting the world price for durum at the pasta plant or at one of the terminals? How much gov money is going into that plant? Check and see how much went into the pulse expansion.

Great some local jobs but what's in it for any farmer?

Are you saying Harper is gonna put his face on the big deal signing and let it go broke in a year or two, yeah right get f'n real weany! Time people got their head out of their ass and realized politics isn't just the photo opp it's the deals behind the scenes where the money goes. CWB is using our money to propogandize their bullshit position and what is the pm doing? Thought the reformer nuts didn't believe in government intervention?

The importance of consumer wants are often
overlooked. And theses days, no matter the
income, price is no longer the absolute overriding
                      factor for buying.
Simply put, more and more world consumers
avoid buying food from China because people
don't trust them as growers or processors.

Hence, opportunity pops it's head up, doesn't it

The poor will eat what they can get. The
chequebooks will chose food they trust. Position
                      yourself. Pars
