    Big question.

The great greek philosophers where thinking about this stuff.

As much as i can tell the individual should only be punished when he victimizes someone
    else.

A republic should be explained here, which may not be understood by many.

When a country declares itself a republic it means it is ruled by the rule of law.Not the
    mob,or democracy.

The "republican party" was originally based around the republic or the constitution.

The constitution was the frame work for the greatest country that was ever born.

Based on life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

If this makes sence,i try to use as few words as possible.

China tried your suggestion, rocky. A swack of
people divying up wealth means farmers live on
$1K a year in China. You couldn't afford the trip
riding on a horse, to visit with the helicopter
        executive you were impressed with.

You want to appease marauders who come
to steal what you have earned. Right? 30,'then
        40, then 50,'then 60, then 70% of yr earnings.
What is the point when you say no? Or can
        you? Pars

Cott, JS Mill would. "Those incapable of looking after
themselves", recognition we are not all created equal.
Took the test - centrist right on the line between
Libertarian and Dem. Interesting. It is what it is.

Pars, I have lots of ways I could hide my tax
payable. I do what I think is fair. The helicopter guy
creates nothing. He takes the value of what you
earn and create and plays it off against the greed
and expectations of others, makes lots of money
for his shareholders and lives the good life. He was
quite open to bragging about his 212 mil bonus last
year. Said something about lots of money to be
made in gold and currency exchanges. Broker at
Morgan Stanley. Very entertaining. We happened to
be at the Rum House two blocks off Broadway on
47th and he was with a rather young and gorgeous
'client' (nudge, nudge, wink, wink). I don't
remember too many more details (though his suit
was to die for) because we stuck it out until closing
time at 4:30 AM. Hence my cynicism. We are mere
pawns in a great big chess game and we don't even
            get to see the board.

              rockpile, you are dead right.
the last 20 yrs has seen capitalism run wild.
in the uk, housing is seen as a business for rich people to play at, screwing rents up and forcing capital values beyond normal persons reach.
js mill would recognise it, its just like victorian times.
the mortgage was introduced after ww1 as a bolster against communism, so that working people could buy a home.
now , it is a vehicle for the rich to buy even more property, while families have no chance to purhase.

Hedge where do the people get the money from to buy the houses to rent at under cost so that the people renting cannot purchase a house from.
There must have been price increases in the past to justify the prices paid for the properties. Otherwise investors money could be better spent somewhere else.

You appraised the helicopterist rider's work and
graded it unworthy. Because he is rich.

You view the addict as someone to protect
                    And entitled.
The first is a pig at the world's trough The
second is a victim. That's about it? Pars

Parsley I agree to legalize also and tax it accordingly. Similar but more stringent rules as cigarettes, not in own house, car, or just outside the door of any building, not in sight of children, minimum age requirement of 19 for consumption.

Parsley you mention a time in China's past when pheasant's daughter were taken from them sometimes purchased with the promise of bringing home money which never materialized, and used by government officials for sex until unwanted, not that it does not still happens today it does but not to the extent it did.

Parsley - you are wrong, wrong, wrong. Heli buddy
is very good at what he does, and doesn't mind
telling strangers all about it. But he doesn't produce
or contribute anything - he's a user and a taker. He
takes what the system allows him to. As far as him
being super rich, I don't give a rats ass. But he was
                            very entertaining, though somewhat condescending
                            to us ordinary folks.
As far as the druggies, Yeah feed them their junk
and keep them off my property at night. Or what do
you suggest, round them up every morning and put
them in front of a firing squad? Or give them a
sound lecture on self reliance, dignity and social
responsibility and expect them to walk away
completely reborn? Be realistic. If everything was
black and white, we wouldn't need grey matter.

The fact that the rich pay or don't pay tax was not directed at you parsley , was just asking for your confirmation of the truth. Seems a lot of people think rich people pay no tax, hear it every ****ing day, tired of it. I don't entirely understand this occupy movement, appears a lot of unemployed members under the gov't umbrella for medical and their welfare for living are the ones protesting. Too much time on ones hands with nothing to do can do strange things to ones mind. What do we do with these people.
