    Petrobakken?PBN-T

Here i go . I have never submitted anything on this
forum or any other for that matter however this
topic is very close to my heart and pocket book. I
am a semi retired farmer who among other money
making interests do write options on stocks i own
and sometimes just options. Suffice it to say i make
money lots of money at this and yes i follow Andy
Sirski and what he does but the final decisions
always rest with myself and my own skill that i have
    learned over the years
I taught myself this skill a few years ago and it took
time and due diligence but was not all that hard. If i
could anyone could. The key thing is you have to do
the math your self and stay away from brokers and
so called advisors that will bleed your capital dry.
Dont even get me started on mutual funds. When
you are ready there are a ton of websites out there
where you can learn the ropes with pretend money.
That being said the learning curve is much faster
with your own skin in the game.
To Hobbyfarmer yes you can do this. For starters
e-mail Andy Sirski and talk to him one on one and
take his newsletter. His address is always on the
bottom of his Grain news articles. If you are
geniunely interested you wont be sorry.
To Hopperbin two comments. 1/ so i could learn
from your mistakes what exactly went wrong when
YOU bought and sold options? 2/ There is an old
Ukrainian saying that goes like this. Why am i poor?
Because i am stupid? Why am i stupid? Because i am
poor. Lets all try to stay out of that vicious circle.
In closing i must say i am very impressed with most
of the contributers here and judging how you
discuss things important to your own business if
you wanted to most of you could make it a cake
walk investing in the stock market.

Welcome. I would like to hear what you have to say about mutual funds. I think the people around here know what I think and to remind them and tell you, I hate them. Too many parasites living off my investment money. I think they are a lazy mans way of investing and as I've said before if I don't want to invest any time in learning something different I can't expect anything better. I think I will get a tongue lashing for saying this but I don't know if I have the time or energy to do it the Andy Sirski way. Searching, researching and doing due diligence all take time. Right now my schedule is pretty full. I am looking forward to your opinion on mutual funds.

Hopper is fully capable of taking care of himself, his
knack will leave you and options andy in the dust.

And who cares that 80% of options expire worthless

All i have to say is that mutual funds work as an
investment for people who can't or won't learn
anything different and don't realize how badly they are
getting screwed. This sort of is on the same level as
the other elephant in the room that is discussed every
day at Agri-ville. I did not realize that Hopperbin you
may have been speaking tongue in cheek about
options etc. Its just that i get soo tired of people being
so negative about things they know nothing about or
        don't understand. My apologies

Allis, thank you for the encouraging words. I really think I would like this skill as a hobby. In the winter I spent coffee time at the computer,(instead of coffee shop) doing books, repair websites, reading news, blogs and readin AV. I originally was a curious passerby, but, as you describe there is value in most posts. I will pursue this, I have the mechanics mostly figured out, I just need a place to learn where to confidently choose proper stock and get fair opinion. My history has been small trades on deadbeat stocks. Not very amusing and not interesting enough to follow them daily. This is my third winter where I claim I am going to work at this skill. I appreicate your insight and any loose guidance, like educational websites would help. I know I have to do my own dilligence, but I dont know how!! There must be some kind of general criteria to follow. The only thing I have ever considered is stockscores.com where they kind of rate a hot or cold stock on their own parameters.

YaYa,i see this seminar at the western progress show
every year, lots of curtains in the middle of one of the
buildings,i thought about slipping in and watching it
until one of the prompters i got talking to reveieled
              himself as a closet moron/salesman.

If you cant give investment sector advice, you cant give
              advice,so sorry.

hobbyfarmer, I use Questrade for my online trading - it's good once you have gone through the hassle of setting it up. Very cheap, fast and usually reliable. Like some of the others they also allow you to set up a phantom portfolio with "play" money if you want to try it that way. I think you would learn quicker talking to Andy Sirski. I find his writing skills are not that hot so it can be difficult to follow what he is on about but he is a lot clearer to talk with. Best $200 I ever spent signing up for his newsletter.

you are trying to be about but i am not interested
                      in the least.

I think cotten, and hopper have the stock watching and choosing skill and are actively utilizing it. That is something I can admire and intend to pursue. On the other hand, Andy Sirski has been writing about buying stocks and selling covered calls for years. What he is describing is not illegal or dodgy, otherwise that circulation paper would have fired him or discontinued his column long ago.
That being said, I like it when people admit to making money, its encouraging, although not something that should be admitted or said out loud in Saskatchewan. I wanted to rephrase my original post. I do not want to do this as a hobby, I want to make $51.00/day with a sideline skill. This is like going to work for 3 hours a day at $17.00/hour. I still have some baby diapers to change at home, and I like the idea of taking a habit and creating some value with it. I think it would be kind of cool to make a payment on one of my old tractors with the morning routine. Grassfarmer, I will look at questrade.

Hobbyfrmer. It would do you absolutely no harm to
email Andy Sirski. He wants absolutely nothing from
you will talk to you for hours about stocks on his
nickel and explain things in a language that anyone
can understand. You will not be sorry.
As for everyone else I didnt think some people
were so defensive about everything. Obviously
someone thinks i am someone else and God only
knows who they think i am but whatever i am out of
here and back to my status as only reading and
enjoying what goes on at Agri-ville. Thanks again

AllisWD45 I am both stupid and poor because
I have not made the effort to learn how to limit
my losses and use options. I can pick the losers.
Its sad to say, i am an optimist, but the market is
just a curse to me. I hope to learn from some
one who has learned from experience.
