To know the true answer we would likely have to talk to an eskimo or probably 4 or 5 because it may bother some and not others, but we can't because we don't speak their language, that was the jist of the comment that things are being said in a way that we cannot make sense of it.
You see this everyday comments made like this. It does depend on the situation it is said in. For example if you were in a bar with the boys and drinking a few and you called one of your buds who was Ukrainian, hey perogy maker bring me a rye, you would get a laugh and some kinda comeback. If you were walking down the street and said that guy looks like a perogy maker and he happenned to be Ukrainian you may get a laugh but likely a black eye. If you are on the national stage as a government official debating an issue of the people and you said perogy makers like the cwb you wouldn't get too many laughs maybe a black eye if one caught you on the street some where, but more likely you would face a possible lawsuit. the problem with this comment is that it is a government official that is supposed to represent all citizens making this comment. Although in no way was it said to offend eskimos, it was not proper for on official to do so particularly if eskimos are offended by it.
