    dormant seeding canola

Does anyone dormant seed canola anymore, or is it a thing of the past? I have never done it, but I know some have tried it, must be 10 years ago or more. Haven't heard of anything for years though. Never heard of anyone having success either. Maybe I just answered my own question.

3 out 5 were a disaster, 1 was ok and 1 was better than spring seeded. Wheat works pretty good though. Somewhere Ag canada has a paper on the research which seemed to closely follow a few neighbours attempts at it.

Dormant seeded canola for many years with good success. Considered it this year with some seed left over from spring. The killer for the practice was increasing seed costs. Lower priced seed meant a wreck only cost you seed as fertilizer was still there. With seed at 8 to 10.00 lb costs could be substantial if it didn't work out. We seldomed yielded below 40 bus but in our area that isn't good enough anymore. Worked great with winter wheat as we could get off our canola off early. We had better luck than Lacombe station just because we had less frost issues. Think we lost about 1.5 crops in 12 years.
