Are suggesting the CWB act as a cash clearing house? Western Barley Growers Association did a lot of work on this a few years ago but no uptake by the industry. Could be an insurance program similar to what Ontario offers.

      "employees check"
That's where your proposition ia flawed , cott

I'm order to succeed, there needs to be a
mondset that says one is able to succeed without
the government doing it for you

I regret to say, if. I take into account my
ovservations, that the present staff have been
hand picked for their approach to life, which does
not encompass,:respect for , or identiy with an
      open market; supporting competitive
environments; personal initiative. I view most
CwB employees as dependent minds waiting to
      be told what to do.
In their world, that's an attribute. In the free
      market world, its disaster. Pars

My take is they should do what they do best, pooling, but doo it better. Become the pooling provider. Offer a range of pooling products. Shorter pooling periods, cash plus pooling, all could be viable marketing tools for farmers.

I suspect the skill sets do reside within the CWB to move the organization forward. Nothing new with the policy direction that is being acted on so I suspect lots of work has been done internally on what the new organization might look like. What is needed now is direction and leadership perhaps starting with a board of dirctors than allows the operations side to think differently/strategically/move the organization into the new world.

The CWB has developed new programs over time but have been tied to crisis versus strategic positioning for change.

I would agree with your comments Charlie with one comment of my own. The board always seemed to design their programs with the thought process of what would work for the board. They needed to do customer surveys recognizing the farmer as customer, and ask, "what do you as farmers need to make this work?" The mindset was always inside out instead of outside in.

Skills and mindset are not synonymous, charliep.

I would no more depend the present CWB
employees to work towards a capitalist marketing
system than I would depend upon nuns to assist
in surgery in an abortion clinic

The staff have to go. They are all handpixked
single desk mindset employees and they will
work to undermine any new undertaking.

              Fire them.

Where did the kinder, gentler, respectful Parsley go?

I say let them do their thing. If they can't respond and be competitive and of value, the marketplace will send them packing. As long as we're not forced to pay their wages, so what.

I think your overshooting on "firing them all".

If it turns into a shareholder brokerage house you
need good people at the top to descide who stays
or goes, like any company.(yes theres the
                  catch,who's on top)

Having people on board who are on a first name
basis with asian buyers would be a competitive
                  advantage.

A brokerage needs to satisfy the buyer and seller.

And who wouldn't like a shot if it switched?

Imagine a chinese chemical company trying to
offload 1 dollar glyphs in a few shipping containers
landed in reginas new transport hub?or mini bulks
                  of urea from egypt

                  The brokerage facilitates the transactions.

Ever tried selling mustard?pretty ****in fun

A large brokerage could hook up buyers and sellers
way more efficiently than now.-and make sure
nobody gets screwed in the process.

CWB employees have been hired, trained, and
                    mentored by socialist management and
governments who view farmers as dull-minded
                    dolts Incapable of marketing.

I watched gum chewing incompetents dressed in
cowboy boots confiscate organics because they
were told the farmers who established organics
                    were incompetent.

Single desk staff will not serve open market
farmers and to assume otherwise is folly.

Can't afford another batch of them. Ever again

Any staff can reapply for their jobs. But there are
staff who will undermine. Right now, farmers are
served by a legislated outfit who were forbidden
by the courts to use $pooling accounts to
advertise and promote the single desk.

The entire CWB is out of control. That is a
                      collective-mindset. Dump it. Pars
