Winter Wheat Grading a total rip off CWB/CGC!!!

    Craig,

What in the world happened to our winter wheat milling grades?

We delivered #1CWRW 10.6 protein a couple of months back... then get a regrade because protein MUST be over 11 percent (11.5 percent US equivelent) to make a #1 OR #2CWRW!!!

Our regrade turned it all into a #3.

Only 10 percent protein is needed for 1CWRS... and 2CWRS has no minimum protein.

How on earth did winter wheat get so screwed up? I never heard a peep about #1 wheat being turned into #3 when it has less than 11.5 percent protein US equivelent!!!

This has totally screwed up our ppo contracts... without proper notice.

And I am talking select Radiant variety... not GP like CDC Falcon.

US Gulf 'Ordinary' is 11 USprotein and down... or 10.5 percent CGC CDN protein or lower.

There is only 5cents/bu difference between 'Ordinary' US Winter wheat and 11.5px US winter wheat.

The CWB discount between #1 and #3 is 30 CENTS PER BUSHEL.

DO WE EVER NEED COMPETITION AND AN OPEN BORDER!!!

Tom: Here is the CGC info.

Under table of contents, Click on "List of Revisions", the fourth item down the list. Doesn't say much but lists a revision. The link is below

    Primary grade determinants table:
CWRW comes up using the link below and shows 11% protein.

IS it because of dough strength? Since we are isolated from our actual customer by the CWB, i have no idea what they need. Soon to change tho.

Viterra, Alliance Grain traders or any host of the other 20 traders would have paid you on the spot for your product you delivered. Tom in my opinion, analyse your situation, One time I took my malt barley back from the UGG terminal here. Of course it was not my grain that I got back but I stood up for myself. They give it to me. The CWB needs to give you your exact grain back, if not your grain it should then be some sort of compensation. You obviously delivered according to a spec and intention of a grade that was wrongfully taken away from you and at your loss.

I feel for you Tom. I was aware of the change earlier this year, but the big questions are why, and who is on the committee that decides standards.

It seems that increasingly farmers are having the standards tightened. Fusarium tolerances lowered on cwrs, protein changes on cwrw.

Margins are already tight enough without making it hard to make the higher grades.

Tom while I sympathize with you everyone has struggled with winter wheat. We worked hard to lower the protein levels to 11 to match American wheat but the board has probably struggled with not enough volume to be able to blend to higher protein. Bigger issue is never getting paid what winter wheat is worth. Board wants a high quality product that they can sell on old spreads. Can only hope that things will get better under an open market

                      Dear Craig,

11px in the US is 10.5px using CGC protein measurments.

There is a huge massive market for US 'Ordinary' winter wheat... which is 10.5 percent px and lower on the US Gulf market.

First it was the varieties are no good... when the US has no problem with these exact same varieties like Falcon. Now we must have over 11.5 percent px for the CWB to market our winter wheat... when they have no problem with 10 percent px on a #1CWRS and no px minimum on a 2CWRS.

This is a true indication of just how badly managed our present milling wheat marketing system is!

99 percent of the world would be VERY happy with this as what it is... #1 wheat. I mills nicer in many respects than CWRS in many baking applications.

Your selection of words in calling this beautiful wheat 'shitty' must come from a 'single desk' perspective... it would be hard to imagine any other reason for this arrogance and intimidation.

                          Have a nice day!

Notaredneck it is the CWB that downgraded his wheat after delivery. Refusing to market it because of protein content. Putting it into like a feed grade. Delivery location is unimportant. His wheat has been stolen. He cannot get it back. What part of that do you not understand?
