Had the annual fall visits yesterday by our Bayer Rep our Monsanto Rep, Two dealers this week and Two seed companies.
Funny consensus from all Farmers are not in a great mood. Still optimistic but getting pissy.
Seems most feel Canola acreage tapped the top last spring and was only in for more acreage if prices held.
Guys are looking to other crops cheaper to grow yet give a good return.
Also all SMF acreage from unseeded ground in NE will be into something else probably wheat or Barley. Oats is retarded sister who will loose out. The guys in West have pushed the envelope and had a dryer end to the season so if the pattern continues seed might be booked but will never get planted. So consensus from all was canola acreage will stay the same or dip some.
HRS and Durum will be up with the opening of the World to grain farmers. Prices might not be Awesome but at least we have freedom to do as we like.
Barley will be up, Now peas and Lentils is a tough call. Lots in our area are done with peas much like the guys did years ago at melfort to fricking wet for two fricking long and peas don't like water.
Funny thing how 11 canola and 5 to 6 wheat change things once canola breaks lower than 11 all bets are off on acreage.
Tough to grow a 200 crop at 10 and it only averages 25 to make a profit.
