How low will Canola Acreage for 2012 Be!

Had the annual fall visits yesterday by our Bayer Rep our Monsanto Rep, Two dealers this week and Two seed companies.
Funny consensus from all Farmers are not in a great mood. Still optimistic but getting pissy.
Seems most feel Canola acreage tapped the top last spring and was only in for more acreage if prices held.
Guys are looking to other crops cheaper to grow yet give a good return.
Also all SMF acreage from unseeded ground in NE will be into something else probably wheat or Barley. Oats is retarded sister who will loose out. The guys in West have pushed the envelope and had a dryer end to the season so if the pattern continues seed might be booked but will never get planted. So consensus from all was canola acreage will stay the same or dip some.
HRS and Durum will be up with the opening of the World to grain farmers. Prices might not be Awesome but at least we have freedom to do as we like.
Barley will be up, Now peas and Lentils is a tough call. Lots in our area are done with peas much like the guys did years ago at melfort to fricking wet for two fricking long and peas don't like water.
Funny thing how 11 canola and 5 to 6 wheat change things once canola breaks lower than 11 all bets are off on acreage.
Tough to grow a 200 crop at 10 and it only averages 25 to make a profit.

Due to the large amount of summer fallow in our area last year 2/3 of the region was canola. This year due to rotations etc... it will be 1/3. Some guys may seed more but some will be less. Last year was not a normal year, in a normal year it would be around 40% canola and it will definitely be less than that. I was thinking i might replace some of the canola with wheat, might put in some canary as well.

I think barley, wheat, durum, and peas
will all be up in acreage next year and
lentils down. Canola acreage will hold
steady. Summer fallow will be up if we
are smart because the outlook for most
crops is not good. Wheat is only 5-6
bucks with cost of production on the rise.
Why is there a supposed land boom on?

In our area the land boom is simple. One investment company sold to another and then flipped to another. One young guy spent 800,000 on three quarters and a house. Creek runs through it so you be the judge.

My guts are splitting with that comment. Funny. But doesnt this remind you of 1979 to 1981 we had some new neighbors that we eventually bought out in mid to late 80s.

Saskfarmer, do you think FCC is lending on
              these values?

No they have their math worked out.
they will take two to three clear quarters as down payment. Land sales of Land companies are not used in figures with fcc to my knowledge.
800000. plus three. Now its 800000 divided by 6 plus a yard. Ah 133 apiece their covered and covered good.

Not a chance in the world to be that high tom. Sorry maybe alberta will be back to back canola but sask and manitoba and the north will go back to rotations.

It was 2/3 yellow in this area, acres will be down. Few go canola snow canola!
Bet more wheat. Peas are rare like flax.
                      Perhaps contracts directly with maltsters?
