    fair representation by the CWB

    posted Dec 9, 2011 16:19
This got posted in wrong spot----------------------------------------
I was looking at stats canada production report and decided to do a few calculations. Here are the percentages of the total for western Canada that apply to each province in both acreage and tonnes produced.
    Spring wheat (acres) Manitoba 12.8%
    Saskatchewan 48.18% Alberta 39.1%
Barley (acres) Manitoba 5.65 % Saskatchewan 36.16% Alberta 58.19% Done on a per tonne basis
    Spring Wheat(tonnes) Manitoba 10.77% Saskatchewan 43.79% Alberta 45.44% barley(tonnes) Manitoba 3.6% Saskatchewan 33.64 % Alberta 62.76%
If we now look at wheat board districts we can see that Manitoba has basically 2 districts, Saskatchewan 5 and Alberta 3 . I classed the 2 districts crossing borders as a half each. I will leave you to do the rest of the math. Reality comes as no surprise. If districts were based on an acre of production or a tonne produced we would see a much different outcome.

Duhhhhhhhh, numbers and stats are for
really dumb people. Lookie, I kin count
1,2,3, etc. Stats and numbers kin be
massaged and are manipulated all the time,
by those wooo claim ta knowitall. The
real test though is the numbers in your
bank account at the enda the year.
Angribusiness mosta the time is just that,
very angry at everything in sight!!!!

Simple point to be made. The cwb districts are not a fair representation of the production of wheat and barley in western canada. Take the acres and divide it by the directors representing those acres. Not surprising you guys don't understand. The CWB has never been about representing those that actually farm.

wilagro Do you really think your 51% barley support or 62 % wheat support would stand up if larger representation moved further west.

            Totally agree. Not some fictious
number supported by socalist professors on the CWB payroll.

              Wilagro, you've admitted you haven't
planted a crop in 23 YEARS! Why don't you
just go away and let the real farmers
              discuss this.

Its pretty easy for Manitoba to support
the CWB as they have many many many
options for crops. In the shorter
season areas west of Regina (or
                somewhere around there) we have
                canola/barley/wheat (often
feed)/peas/oats or hay (not a money
maker unless you have cattle, maybe not
                even then)

I'm going to phone my provincial
representative and his wild rose counter
part monday and ask if we can get out of
the designated area. If the CWB gets
punted later thats great but we need to
keep pushing on the provincial level
just in case. We don't have the options
                longer season areas do.

There's more to numbers and aritmetic than being able to count past three. Some may wish to pursue learning about statistics, calculus and the applicatons that arise from the ten digits and decimal points etc.
It's just plain lazy and an admission that you can't/and/or aren't willing to learn. Pity that you are missing whole intriguing subject areas that others find productive and stimulating.
